Bloody Mary recipes

I'm doing Bloody Marys for the early start tomorrow. It's probably largely a matter of personal taste, but thought I would solicit everybody's thoughts on how to build the best one. Start from scratch with tomato juice or use a prepared mix? Favorite mixes: Zing Zang or something else? Add Worcestershire, horseradish, juice, spices to prepared mix? Etc. Thanks for any input.

I would just doctor up a good mix.

Crush some ice and drop it into a cocktail shaker. Pour in some good tomato juice, vodka (I prefer Stolichnaya), a few drops of Lea & Perrins, a few drops of Tabasco, a modest sprinkling of celery salt, and some cayenne pepper.
And now for a tip that sorts the men from the boys: add a generous dash of dry sherry (Tio Pepe is ideal), and a squeeze of lemon or lime juice.

I would do most of this with lime juice except still use a mix.

If you don't feel like making them, call up The Patio in BR and get a gallon from them. Alcohol is already added and it's about $20 if I remember correctly.

Start here, get some Tito's vodka, and all the fixings. Hard to go wrong if you just put it out and let folks fix their own

I buy a good mix and add whatever I like more of, as well. Put out some fun garnishes like boiled shrimp and bacon and it will be fancy pants!

Buy a jug of tomato juice and add salt, pepper, lemon, lime, horseradish, worcestershire and hot sauce and mix thoroughly. Even better if you mix it up days in advance and let sit in fridge.
Fill pint glass with ice and fill 1/3 full of vodka. Top off with mix. Pout that pint glass into an empty pint glass. Take the now empty pint glass glaze the rim with a slice of lemon or lime and then dip the rim into some cajun seasoning. Then dump the full glass back into the seasoned lined rim empty glass.
Garnish with whatever you like or have on hand.

I like to add a lot of pickled stuff and with a mix its always too much sodium for how many I want to drink.
So I usually get just tomato juice or low sodium V8 and add celery salt, black pepper, Worchester, tabasco, lime juice, pickled okra, cocktail olives with the garlic in the middle. Pretty much whatever you can think of and they are great.

Why do people use expensive vodka when making bloodys? Makes zero sense. All of my bartender friends used to make fun of people who paid extra to put premium vodka in a Bloody Mary.

Try muddling a cut cucumber in the vodka before adding the tomato juice or mix. Sounds odd, but really works.

I agree it is unnecessary to use an expensive vodka in a bloody mary.

Have you ever added Pickled Okra? I have several jars I made up this summer from the garden, and I may try this.

Do it. Pickled green beans are good in a bloody mary too.
