I would say no you do not need to play the first three. Andromeda is a soft reboot of the franchise.

I don't think you need to play the first 3, but I would suggest that you do anyway. They are excellent games, and will give you a history lesson on what happened before Andromeda. Andromeda starts between ME2 and ME3, but I think all of the gameplay takes place about 600 years after ME3.

apparently the combat is fun, so theres that.
the animations are obviously awful and the writing is suspect.
might be a gold mine for unintentional comedy and dank memes.
also, 0 people who worked on ME 1-3 worked on Andromeda. this is entirely EA's creation

Not entirely true. The people behind the ME3 multiplayer did this game.for whatever reason the team that did the trilogy are working on another project
