DeSean Smith Interview

quote:

"We've always had these plays in our playbook. Just never opened them up. You know we opened them up in practice all the time."

"It's nothing new to us. We're just executing our plays."

"Coach Steve is doing a hell of a job calling these plays.. And I'm glad Coach O is letting him do his job."

"I'm glad Coach O is letting him do his job"

The more and more I listen to these interviews the happier I am that Miles is gone.

I'm so glad this top100 player in the NATION (Rivals, 247 etc.) is getting properly utilized. He's a total mismatch when on the field.

... and Etling is hitting him not across the middle, but throwing accurately on out patterns.

What's sad is that we should have not only been incorporating those plays during the first 4 games, but expanding the playbook way back during the Spring/Summer.
At least the guys have been practicing some of it. How much that will help against the big boys - time will tell.

But Miles had the most consecutive 8 straight win teams ever.

Smith is a guy that had little chance to be drafted under the old regime. Now he looks like a decent pro prospect. No telling where he'll end up, but his draft stock is on the rise.

I remember people would laugh at others and claim they were being paranoid and delusional if they claimed that Les was interfering with the play calling.

Bad times. Glad they're over now.

If a tight ends coach, who was promoted to OC, didn't start implementing more plays for the tight ends, i would be highly concerned.

Love to see Desean and his talents finally being utilized to exploit defenses. I'm happy for him, he's a great guy.

Though it does sadden me to think of how Les and his offense wasted this ability all those years. Awesome thoroughbred that you keep just sitting in the stable because it doesn't fit your flawed idea of what an offense should be.

I'm glad he finally got used correctly. Les wasted so much talent...

LSU now has 2 tight ends with at least 4 catches through 6 games.

That hasn't happened, through 6 games, since at least 2005, per Ross Dellenger.

Let that one sink in.

At this point, saying Miles was an incompetent game day coach and strategist is an insult to incompetent game day coaches and strategists

Desean smith is a beast and it's almost criminal how little he has been used. There is no reason he can't be a Jordan reed type nfl prospect.

the weird thing about DeSean in particular is that in his (and Cam's) first game vs TCU, they split him out wide in the red zone and threw the ball to him. this was with the game still tight. I really thought we were gonna see him used more than he was. then he went into witness protection until the ND bowl game like a good 20 games later.

the lack of use of the TE post-Dickson was just mystifying. but I guess you could say that about the offense as a whole the last few years under Les to an extent.

It was obvious that the players had already practiced these new plays when the TE coach was able to make a gameplan that put 630 yards on an SEC team in 5 days.
