Black Woman Says Flight Crew Refused to Believe She Was a Doctor

When a passenger recently became frighteningly unresponsive midflight from Detroit to Minneapolis, causing his wife to scream in terror, there was luckily a physician, Tamika Cross, sitting just two rows behind them. But Cross never got the chance to help, due to a flight attendant who rebuffed her efforts because, as the doctor believes, she is a woman of color, and couldn’t have possibly been an “actual physician.”
Cross, who lives and practices as an ob-gyn in Houston and had been in Detroit to attend a wedding, posted a lengthy Facebook post about the upsetting encounter.

Why is a person from Houston flying Delta? United would have been much cheaper and a direct flight.

"I'm sorry miss, we're going to take our chances with this nice Asian passenger who has WebMD pulled up on his browser. Thank you so much for offering though!"

It sounds like the flight crew made Tamika cross.

ntion. She said to me ‘oh no sweetie put your hand down, we are looking for actual physicians or nurses or some type of medical personnel, we don’t have time to talk to you.’ I tried to inform her that I was a physician but I was continually cut off by condescending remarks.”
I call bullshite

Maybe they just didn't want some random person who had no credentials to show provide medical assistance.

Who gives a frick? Why is this news?

I believe this story 100%. And like she says maybe it was age discrimination, sex discrimination, racial discrimination or some combination. Whatever happened it was discriminatory.

Sometimes it's about liability. It happened to me in New Orleans.

What is an OB/GYN going to do anyway?
Posted on 10/13/16 at 11:42 pm to Street Hawk
Black? Doctor? Was she a witch doctor?
What a crock.
What a crock.

Why would an OB-GYN be a big help here? You can be a Doctor of Physics...

Cross noted at the end of her post that the flight attendant eventually came back to her to seek medical advice on the man’s situation. And after it was clear the man was going to be all right, she offered Cross an apology — along with some free Sky Miles. “I kindly refused,” Cross wrote. “This is going higher than her. I don’t want skymiles in exchange for blatant discrimination. Whether this was race, age, gender discrimination, it’s not right. She will not get away with this … and I will still get my skymiles.” Stay tuned for an update.
Ugh. Thats certainly going to help race relations.
Now she wants a red carpet, and free shite out of it. What a humble person.
