9-0 before I would even consider it

He's playing with the best D/C in America and an offensive style nobody has any film on yet. Also the emotional aspect isn't going to stay at this level.

I have no doubt O would be much better here than he was at Ole Miss, but I just don't see him as a guy who can go toe to toe with the top head coaches in the country on a regular basis, which is what we need if we're going to get where we want to go.

Les was starting to fade. His rant on offenses may have been correct but it comes off as bitchy and scared of change.

I still think he is a top tier guy but he is losing some of his luster.

eta: he may just need a change of scenery to get back to winning 23 straight games.

Yeah, not all of them. Just most of them. Why make a low percentage play when you have the ability to attract a top mind because you have a top job. If this job came open in 2014, no one would have said we should hire Ed Orgeron. No one. Everything has changed now because Ed made friends with the local radio people so they would talk him up ad nauseum for this situation. He coached at Ole Miss. He wants to back away from that, but that was his shot. He blew it. If he wants redemption he should take the Houston job or the Kentucky job when they open up at the end of this season.

I see your point but who the hell wins at Kentucky? Bill Belichick got fired from his first HC job, Pete Carroll sucked and got fired twice then went on to win a NC and SB. I'm not saying Orgeron is going to be that good but if he goes 7-1 and beats Bama he would deserve the chance. That would put him at 13-3 as an interim hc.

If he goes 7-1 and doesn't lose to Alabama, that, frankly, isn't good enough. The other teams on the schedule are more beatable than Alabama is.

Here's a question for you. Name all the schools that if their job came open right now that Coach O would be a top 3 candidate to get the job.

Beat Bama, A&M, and Ole Miss this year, and I'd be happy giving him another year.

Every current head coach with a winning % of over 60% would have to die. You know, the guys who've already proven they can do all the things that CEO has failed at and not had success doing.

He seems like a great guy. IMO, he needs to go make a lesser team (non power 5 conference) into a winner and prove he can run a program that was not already built for him. Winning games this year does not mean he can turn this program around for the next 4.

I've been very impressed with the CEO. I think he would do a great job as our HC. He knows what he's doing and they players are enjoying his style of coaching. We already know he's a great recruiter.

The bottom line us that LSU makes the coach.

i am just not going to be sold on him short of 8-0 or 7-1

he is going to be coaching a super talented team with who will be playing very loose because they have accepted the spoiler role.

I don't think interim coaching ever indicates long term success once the pressure is actually on.

LSU made helluva coaches out of Hudson Hallman and Mike Archer.

Ok.

Holy shite, who is Nick Saban? From Michigan St?? We're screwed. Why didn't we go after Spurrier.

Pete Carroll to USC...that's a joke. Guy failed big time in the NFL.

He's in a perfect situation for his skill set. He's great at galvanizing a team for a short time period and fixing a broken sink

I don't think he has what it takes to sustain a program long term though. Eventually that rah rah juice runs out and you need a guy that can gameplan against the best and run a program the best.

Great DL coach, hope there's a way to retain, but I don't want him near the permanent job, and not many people one here would if he weren't a coonass.

I like to look at it this way. Had we fired Miles just like we did, and Orgeron was not currently on our staff, would ANYONE be clamoring for him to swoop in and become the head coach? Would he even be on anyone's list, let alone their short list?

I agree with you entirely. None of that takes away from the job he did as interim at SC, or the job he MAY yet do as interim at LSU...but interim is not full time head coach. It's essentially the cool substitute teacher who comes in, changes stuff up, and everyone likes. There's a certain skill set to that, which does not necessarily mean they'll make a wonderful long term teacher.

You want to consider O as the HC of LSU? I'd like to see him be successful as a HC somewhere else first. Not 2/3 of a season taking over a program as the interim, but a full on HC who has to build his own staff from scratch, recruit, run the program, etc. I'll not hang his job at Ole Miss around his neck...that was a no win situation...but it really is the only data set we have of him being his own HC at this point. Any reasonable person ought to want to see him do this FIRST before turning over the keys to our program.

Anything else is the definition of knee jerk as far as I'm concerned.

Only LSU fans would pick failures out of potential candidates and say, "not all failures stay failures forever! Nope, a small percentage of them end up being ok!"

Let's keep hiring retreads until we find the next Pete Caroll, y'all!

Your point, like the logic that underpins it, is stupid (no surprise, yuck, yuck, yuck). Picking low percentage plays because sometimes Sarava wins the Belmont is incredibly fricking stupid and not the type of decisionmaking that should be happening at the highest levels of a program like LSU.

I'm already won over in the sense that I love what he's done to get this team back on track and in such short order. Him just plain shooting straight to the fans and press is a huge bonus. His undying devotion to this state and this school is huge for me as is his passion and excitement he brings, as well as being a top shelf recruiter in a state full of Talent, and a local character in his own right.

That being said, what I think really doesn't matter. Coach O is going to have to win a lot of games for him to be considered, and if he does, and if he somehow beats Bama in the process, you'd be an idiot not to give him serious consideration, especially considering what he was handed three games into the season, turned around so quickly and made decisive moves that have proven to be in the best interests of LSU, namely in letting coaches do their job you're paying them to do, and getting rid of Cam out the gates.
