His ability to play a man in love with a sheep, and yet keep him sympathetic and lovable in the face of that utter absurdity, was totally brilliant

Are we awake?
I dunno. Are we black?
Yes we are.
Then we are awake.

tour was obviously a thrill ride and a test only for Charlie. I've picked up on that for many years. Charlie was preselected, but he had to pass the test. The other kids were not being tested - they were part of the test.

Think about it - they thought all the tickets were gone. Charlie was all stressed out about it and stopped buying before that (plus, they were broke as democrats). But, once they think the tickets are gone, he scrounges up enough money to buy chocolate again? He goes back and gets chocolate from the British version of Gene Kelly. Ole boy hands him a Wonka Bar, and Wonka's agent is right outside, almost as soon as Charlie breaks loose from the crowd?

Total set up.

Young Frankenstein

The scalpel scene.

Also a big fan of his first scene in blazing saddles

He Thinks That He Is Meeting A Different Woman

My Favorite - "You Stupid Ignorant Son Of A Bitch Dumb Bastard!"

That entire scene at the sheriff's office in Silver Streak is hilarious.

Oh I thought about it. And it blew my mind. And it makes perfect sense.

I mean, the "challenges" specifically played to each of the other characters vices. I suppose these were used as examples to remind Charlie what not to do. His only test was the only "real" test out of the entire group.

Wow. Just wow. This right here is why you're my e-bro.

I have always thought that Wonka selected Charlie and that he was disappointed that if not for Grandpa Joe, Charlie would have passed all test. The fact that the adult convinced Charlie to do it different that Wonka wanted, is where he actually failed. Then the next test was the gobstopper. In that moment when the Joe wanted to get the money from Slugworth, Charlie stood up and showed Wonka that he was exactly right in choosing Charlie. Charlie would do it the way Wonka wanted. Everyone else invited to the chocolate factory was never a consideration. The entire movie was to test Charlie and to make sure he was the correct choice.

I think he expected Grandpa Joe to react like... well, an adult. To get revenge, to go to the rival. But Charlie is an innocent, and doesn't think that way. But resisting the temptation, which had to be laid out for him by Joe, is what made the test work.

Willy Wonka and Blazing Saddles are my absolute top 2.

I always liked See No Evil, Hear No Evil. So absurd.
