Sharing that scene with Garr didn't hurt, as she was fiya back that.

I liked his rant at the end of Willy Wonka and when Pryor was trying to make him black (disguise) in Silver Streak.

Quote from Blazzing Saddles- "What's a dazzeling urbanite like you doing in a rustic setting like this?"

I almost pee my pants every time I hear that.

Bart: Are we awake?

Jim the Waco Kid: We're not sure. Are we black?

Bart: Yes, we are.

Jim the Waco Kid: Then we're awake. But we're very puzzled.

Cleavon Little - "Are we awake?"
Wilder - "That depends, are we black?"
Cleavon Little - "Yes, we are"
Wilder - "Then we are awake, but very confused"

Blazing Saddles: Are we awake?

The Frisco Kid has a special place in my heart, but Blazing Saddles is his best movie. "But I shoot with his hand" gets me every time.

He and Little having to alternate playing the straight man with each other took a lot of talent and timing on their part. Little carried a lot of that film in doing that - from the borderline minstrel show in taking himself hostage, to playing off the various white authority figures while trying to stay alive/solve the problem was pretty impressive.

Gene was a last minute substitute for Gig Young, who quit drinking to make the movie then promptly went into alcohol withdrawal on the set. Gene described it - I got the call to come do the part. I went out the next day. The following day I was hanging upside down in a jail cell.

The tunnel scene from Willy Wonka. I try to imagine it in the safe kids films of today. Wonka was an insane, dangerous man... which is part of the appeal.

Either the boat scene in Willy Wonka

Or the one posted when he stabs himself with the scalpel. I love his freak out moments.

The tour was obviously a thrill ride and a test only for Charlie. I've picked up on that for many years. Charlie was preselected, but he had to pass the test. The other kids were not being tested - they were part of the test.

But, back to the portrayal - Wilder wanted the scene at the factory gates with the cane. They asked him, "Why?" He said, "Because after that, the audience will never know if I'm lying or telling the truth."

Of course he wasn't - but he wanted to appear that he was. He was actually a child in a man's body. He was having enormous fun with his new playmates. That's clear from the Great Glass Wonkavator scene.
