1k people could have easily died there was no warning. But there were also hundreds of boats piloted by neighbors saving people. I didnt see much of that in the NOLA area. All were flooded just the same. People are being told to not return in parts of BR just the same as well. There is a lack of food just as I remember and a lack of access just as I remember.
The only difference I have seen so far was for Katrina we had many days warning to get out and the water will ultimately go down faster.

It was for months after Katrina.
Your memory isn't very good. Hell, Baton Rouge was a logistical nightmare for months after Katrina. Bay St. Louis was leveled.

You're incredibly biased then. The deaths alone will be astronomically different. The damage $$ will be astronomically different. The rebuild time will be astronomically different. The impact on the region will be astronomically different.
I'm not downplaying what happened in Louisiana at all. My parents were flooded and I have friends and their families that are going through life changing event, but Katrina caused $100+ billion in damages in caused ~1.5k deaths. While both are devastating, they aren't similar in scale.

People in New Orleans were crying after Katrina saying that bush didn't do anything to help them... Has Obama done anything?? I'd imagine they'd probably cut him a little slack

My station in Virginia has been covering the floods pretty well IMHO.
on another note....I'm really hurting for you fellas right now. What I've seen is absolutely terrible and I can't imagine what it's actually like down there. Good thing is there's a lot of people that aren't thinking twice about dropping everything and coming to help out. That's one of the biggest things that I miss about the South. We take care of our own pretty well.
Stay strong, fellas. It'll pass soon enough.

Again, I don't really get what some of you are asking for as far as a 24/7 news cycle goes. They've mentioned it throughout the day and reported. You can't really expect them to talk about this situation all day. Along with the fact that Twitter is a much faster way to follow major updates on this storm.

I mean I think it's rather stupid for people to be comparing this Katrina in the first (Hell this isn't even as bad as Gustav for the BR area). Nevertheless, it's pretty fricking stupid for people to try and have a pissing contest over "which disaster was bigger?".

Katrina was a wider scale storm no doubt. But to the actual posting demographic of tigerdroppings, this was worse IMHO

It's being covered on the local news in WA state. It's not wall to wall with the election and Olympics going on but if you pay any attention to the news at all you should be aware of it.

Have to disagree with you there bub. The damage incurred within the greater BR metro area will be exponentially higher than Gustav could sniff. Flood waters reign supreme in ticking the monetary damage upwards
