Does it really matter ???? Why is it so important for the national news to cover this.

So we're going to immediately turn this into a race issue? Airtight logic right there.

I'm surprised Facebook didn't activate the "I'm Safe" check in that it does for other disasters. Would have been pretty useful this weekend with so many people not having cell service.

several of my friends checked in safe

Exactly. National support equals more assistance, donations, volunteer efforts, etc.

We all know why it isn't being covered nationally.

not to be insensitive, but flooding like this occurs in small communities all over the country all the time

I know it is devastating to south LA right now, but unless it really start affecting major cities, it is just not going to garner that much national coverage

National reaction will be the same as every other disaster..

People will change their profile pics to the shape of Louisiana with a heart in it.. make a couple of "my heart aches for LA" posts.. and then when FEMA sends federal tax dollars to help the affected people, those peopl will be vilified as leeches on the public dollar

20+ plus were killed in West Virginia recently, wasnt on the news much.

Flooding like this, just doesnt draw media attention, unless something else elevates it

You realize this isn't the first flooding event that did not receive 24/7 coverage (TN flood of 2014 & Iowa City flood of 2008 immediately come to mind).
