I had a few Facebook friends go to Alton Sterling's funeral today and each of them posted that he was a martyr. I've heard of other people referring to him as a martyr as well. How exactly is he a martyr? I'm just curious if anyone on the OT can explain.

He's not a martyr. a victim maybe, but not a martyr. It's stupid people using words they for which they don't know the meaning.

Martyr? Seriously? He was an armed criminal resisting arrest and not for the 1st time. This is a farce!

If he's considered a modern day martyr, society is more screwed up than I thought.

He's is not a martyr, he's a convicted felon who illegally had a gun, couldn't follow orders and put his destiny into the hands of the police, and therefore he lost control of the situation. If he was anything, he was a teacher, he taught all of us that even though you may be right, you comply and live to fight another day. I'm in no way saying he was right.
