I'm in the market for a small SUV for my fiancee. We're looking at the RAV-4 and most Internet prices are only $1,000 off MSRP. I've been told that you can't really get much off of Toyota's b/c their of their high resale value. Is this true?

Also besides Rav4, are Hyundai Tucson's considered reliable? She hates the CRV thinks it looks like a mini van

You need to make sure you bring data, price points and prices for other dealerships with similar configurations.

I've only had one dealer that refused to move down in price and it's because he got it on swap from another dealer or something and wouldn't budge.

Went across town and got it 4K cheaper.

Haggle depends on supply and demand.

You can haggle a prius EASY in todays climate, but would have had to pay full sticker a few years ago when gas was $4 a gallon.

RAV-4?

you gonna likely have to pay.
small SUV's are in demand now

Depends on vehicle. They won't move much on 4runners and Tacomas, but they'll move on on Camrys and Tundras. Not sure about Rav4s

ETA: FWIW, I went with my uncle 2 weeks ago to Team Toyota in BR to look at Camrys. They immediately came off the MSRP $6k when he asked what was the best they could do.

Look at prices in high volume areas to get an idea of what you can get.

If you can't get local to match it, just drive to the high volume dealer and buy it. $2500 off on a Limited seems to be a good price.

you probably won't do much better than the internet deal, maybe a few hundred.

the Rav 4 is basically a minivan fwiw. they just call it an SUV so people don't like the stigma

Research the cars value and Decide beforehand what the vehicle is worth to you. If they can meet it--buy it.

It's stupid to just see how much they come off to feel like you got a "good deal".

I can...then again, my local Toyota dealership is owned by one of my childhood friend's family. He will show me what he paid for it, and we will come to an agreement on a little above that.

They were coming off on Venza's pretty good. Solid car, basically a Camry wagon.

I've haggled a good deal on a Toyota but the last time was 2006. In my experience Honda dealers are the ones who are bastards about not cutting any slack.

About a year and a half ago, we bought a 2015 Highlander XLE. They came off $5,000. Deal with multiple people online.

ETA: purchased at All Star in BR. Price Leblanc wouldn't deal

Completely wrong. Toyota can move a lot on price. Have bought two cars from them and got them to come down massively off sticker

Bought at price Leblanc and lakeside. Leblanc was worse to deal with and took a lot of effort to get hat we wanted. Lakeside was less strenuous. Just go in with what you want and what's reasonable to pay. Use true car sales listings to back it up.
