with the release of pokemon go Nintendo has seen its stock skyrocket. LINK

now the question becomes will they release other nintendo properties into the mobile realm? it would seem the obvious answer is yes with the financial success of pokemon go. but I lean more towards no. nintendo doesn't want to water down their properties and they're not in it just to make money. pokemon seems like a calculated release that fits the mobile market like a glove and it forces people to interact with each other and with the real world. that interaction is a big thing to nintendo as evidenced by their reluctance to embrace virtual reality. I'll be surprised if they put other properties in the mobile market unless those properties allow for that pokemon go like interaction or they revolutionize an aspect of mobile gaming like pokemon go has.
quote:

The insane success of Pokemon GO has challenged conventional wisdom completely. Are location-based features far more potent money-making tools than anyone has realized? Could Eighties and Nineties nostalgia items be recycled a lot more effectively than they have been thus far? Should Nintendo immediately ditch all of its console plans and put all its core franchises on the iOS platform?

The answer to the last question is quite likely a resounding yes. Once Pokemon GO launches in markets other than the US, Australia and New Zealand, it will quite likely become a $1 billion annual behemoth. With moderately professional updates and expansions, it can stay at that level for at least 3-5 years. There is no reason why Animal Crossing, Zelda and Mario wouldn’t be able to replicate this success — particularly since location-based features fit all three naturally. It is quite possible that Castlevania, Wario mini-games, Advance Wars and other Nintendo properties could easily gross $300+ million annually. Nintendo has now seen just how fantastically profitable its back catalogue can be. The app industry has witnessed how much money location-based and collectible-oriented titles can gross.

Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are both in the works to come out sometime this fall or close the the end of the year. I know nothing about either game but will definitely be giving both a shot.

People are seriously over estimating the sustainability of this game.

capturing 400 Pidgeys in a Wal-Mart parking lot is not fun nor a great business model

My thought too. Seems like a fade to me, but I also don't get how people played candy crush etc so long. So I am probably wrong.

Sorry don't have a link, I just remember reading that when I was researching Nintendo for investment purposes a couple months ago. When I get home I'll look for one if you don't get to it first.

It is going to need updates of course, but all of that will come. I think it'll stick around a while.

I am rooting against it, mainly because I do not enjoy mobile games. Don't want Nintendo to start focusing on just mobile.

sure.. if they add in trading, add in legit PVP, fix gyms, fix server crashing/freezing, fix fgts who have GPS hacks who just teleport around the city claiming everything...

Once we (I play too) collect 50 or so pokemon... are we _really_ going to grind 100 more captures just to Evolve 1 type?

having to go outside is a novel concept, but being unable to really play this game inside your house (because nothing spawns there) will be the games downfall

now if they add in a battle system a user can access from inside their home... legit 6 on 6 pokefights... then yeah this game will skyrocket out of control IMO

I heard that in future updates they hope to add trading and trainer battles.

Think they should also hold random CPU trainer battles for small prizes.

Would be huge for the game.

Its gonna get a massive update that will make it much better.

We are playing a bare bones version. Niantic had absolutely no idea it was gonna be this big.

Yep, bought in at $17.85 a couple months ago. Still holding... Very close to selling this morning when it passed $30 but I couldn't do it. I have a thread on the money board that I made when I first bought it - https://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/money/nintendo-ntdoy---good-bet/63313600/

Have not. I am sure it is fun. Doesn't look to be my thing though.
