No. But they did tell us to avoid a lake in Orlando when I was in Elementary school because those damn amoeba would get in your ears and eat your brain.
Nice..talk about making kids paranoid..

I stayed out of that lake. It works. Just need Caution Amoeba signs.

Why are there Jellyfish at the beach? Sharks in the surf? Bears in the woods?

I know about "Gators" from watching college football, but they're not really a threat to anyone but themselves.

how about no white sandy beaches (that are not typical to marshes)? how about a barricade that physically prevents a gator from grabbing a child.....they are both known to frequent the area.
Understand this, that gator could have EASILY nabbed said child had it been right at waters edge.
You ok with having a 500lb gator within leaping distance of your toddler (who is not in the water but playing in the sand)?

Gators will do pretty much whatever they want. Putting barriers in the water won't do much either considering they frequently go on land to move to new areas.
Most pools are required to have fences around them so this is evidence they can get around fences

I think of Alaska and bears are my first thought. I don't see how anyone can think of florida and not think of alligators.

At some beaches, they simply put up protective nets to keep sharks and other predators out and away from the families/guests. For a company who continues to stress that visitor safety is top priority, they didn't seem to do much to support that statement, other than put up signs. Even so, NO SWIMMING is not the same as STAY AWAY - GATOR HABITAT. Heck, at the lake by Summit Hospital on O'Neal they even have a sign saying a gator was spotted and to beware.
Bottom line is, a billion-dollar company where families are coming from all over the world to visit and enjoy themselves, should not have the threat of dangerous animals. It is the company's responsibility to keep their guests safe. If that means hiring Troy Landry to come in throughout the year and get rid of the gators, then that's what they need to do.

quote:No shite? Not the same, huh? Genius. The fact is Disney didn't want to keep people away from the beach. They didn't have a problem with wading. They had a problem with going out and swimming without proper supervision. In the lake connected to this one, people can rent paddle boats, water ski, parasail, etc. No gator attack there! OMG NO WAY, right?
NO SWIMMING is not the same as STAY AWAY - GATORS NEARBY
This was a freak accident. Period.

It kind of is like Jurassic Park. A gator up and ate a kid while he was wading off of a sandy beach on vacation at a theme park. When they went looking for the body yesterday, they found 11 gators in the lagoon. That's pretty Jurassic Park.

a world famous resort in Brazil and your kid walks 1 foot into some woods, are you to blame when it gets eaten by an anaconda?
Not the argument he presented. He said you cant blame people from Nebraska for simply not knowing about gators in Florida.
I would blame myself if my child walked into 1 foot of water and was then suffocated and killed by an anaconda, since they live in water.
I wouldn't want people rushing to my defense saying, "Well they are from Louisiana, can't blame him for not knowing about the anacondas or piranhas." No, that's just ignorant.

I've seen them all over, especially during my trips to Mexico, Bahamas, etc. Those resorts do not want any liability.
