LOL at NHL game 1 ratings, lmao i guess bc im from houston and never had a nhl team growing up so i dont care, but comparing a game 7 with all those nba studs vs an NHL game with those small markets is comical

An even bigger dagger is that the NBA game was on cable and the NHL game was on NBC.

OKC is a small market too. Trying. Too. Hard.

The Bay Area led all markets for Game 7 with a 30.9 rating, the market’s highest ever an NBA game on TNT. Oklahoma City ranked second with a 30.0.

Game 7 earned the second-highest overnight for any sporting event since the Super Bowl, behind the previously mentioned Villanova/UNC college basketball championship and ahead of the Kentucky Derby (9.3), the final round of The Masters (8.5), the Daytona 500 (6.1), and both Final Four semifinals — North Carolina/Syracuse (8.1) and Villanova/Oklahoma (7.1).

I watched both. Love the NBA, but that NHL game was fantastic. I feel bad for those that missed out

Bums me out to think that ESPN will be televising the Finals. Their coverage is shite compared to TNT.

It was the only game I watched all year

Well, the San Jose Sharks and Golden State Warriors are both a part of the San Francisco TV market, which is the 6th largest in the country. Pittsburgh is the 23rd largest market, while Oklahoma City is the 45th. The ratings have less to do with market size and more to do with the popularity of the two sports followed by the star power you alluded to.

Wow we were predicting last night a 9.5

This. But I would say ESPN has them on in game commentary. Marv has really lost a step and Webber/Miller are insufferable. Breen/JVG/Jackson are a much better crew. But in studio analysis, TNT destroys ESPN and it's not even close

Yep, but it's a superstar league and fans will tune it to watch the stars.
Silver must be loving his Finals lineup.

Same here, and I doubt I will watch the Finals.
But hey, the NBA is better when the Knicks and Lakers are good, amirite?

Insane to me that OKC only managed a 30.0 for Game 7 of a WCF. What the hell?

Eh, ESPNs production value is a lot better

Hockey's a niche sport like Golf or non-WS baseball.

Agree on TNT being much better.
I know it is the same ownership (unless I am mistaken) ... but, I am pretty sure that The Finals are on ABC, not ESPN. (will still likely be ESPN people, of course)
