Surprising the lady for a dinner out Thursday night. I hear different people say that either one is the best steak house in Nola. I've done Doris Met for a private party with set menu but never eaten at Chophouse.

Thoughts on both?

Neither. Then again, don't listen to me.

Will the lady want a surprise dinner at a steakhouse? My wife would murder me on the spot.

Of the two, DM.

She enjoys steak as much as me. She's been to DM as well but never Chophouse.

Sounds like me. Please don't take me to a steakhouse as my own surprise.

Same. I don't want to be surprised by dinner at a steakhouse especially in New Orleans.

Confused about if she would like a steak house or not but Doris Met is legit.

Eh. I don't really love steak is all. A surprise dinner for a food I am not too fond of would suck. I do always find other things to order at steak restaurants though, so I'm not opposed to going to them other times

Chophouse because they do Pittsburgh style steaks

Some people love a good steakhouse and so do I, sometimes. It's far from my favorite food, but I crave a good one periodically. I fix steaks periodically, but probably not more than every 6 weeks it's more like months that I have steak unless I eat it at someone else's house.

Chophouse is nowhere near the best steak house in NOLA.

Steaks can be cooked much better at home than in a restaurant.

Wife and I had a great dinner at Chophouse a few months ago. Haven't made it to Doris yet, but have heard it's better. If that's the case, it must be really good.

If you end up at Chophouse, the cheesecake for dessert is amazing.

This statement gets bandied about here often, and there could be a small segment of truth to it, but in fact it is not correct.

Steaks can be cooked cheaper at home. Steaks can be cooked exactly to one's liking at home. Steaks can be cooked with whatever one wants at home. Steaks can be cooked and served with a mojito, or old fashion, port, or wine of one's choosing at home. Certainly there is some primal satisfaction in firing up a grill, sitting outside on a nice night, and cooking a steak (or reverse searing/searing/sous viding) that can not be replicated by sitting in a restaurant, but...

But all in all, given a choice between a top steak at a great restaurant (that is sourcing, aging, cutting, and more skilled at cooking it on equipment you dont have) and your home cooked steak, I'd take the restaurant steak 9 times out of 10. And only that once, if I really liked you.
