Robber Shot & Killed in McDonald's Drive-Through

This one is interesting (to me) for two reasons:
1. The would-be robber walked up to a vehicle in a McDonald's drive-through lane. It's hard to maintain situational awareness while reading menu, getting money ready to pay, etc. -- but obviously the victim managed to do so.
2. This happened in League City, Texas -- 2 blocks away from the League City Police Department.

League City annually ranks as one of the most armed cities in the state. Per capita it is the highest rate of CHL holders in Texas (that was 2013 I believe).

I want to know why it is being turned over to the grand jury. Waste of tax payers money. He was stealing with a gun. Obviously posing a threat. Threat eliminated, end of story.

Standard Procedure for a lot of jurisdictions.

Not really. A lot of Jurisdictions impanel grand juries on a regular basis and that grand jury will rule on numerous cases. So chances are the grand jury is scheduled to be impaneled with or without this case.

I think I wouldve waited on a single woman occupant in a Camry.

Does the Castle Doctrine extend to your vehicle as well? If so the perps family won't be able to file civil charges on him.

It does but this is simple self-defense against armed robbery.

It gives the DA political cover. He doesn't catch any flak (racial or otherwise) for failing to prosecute. If anyone complains, he can credit to the grand jury with the decision.

In the state of Texas (as well as Louisiana), yes it does.
With the little bit of information given, it was a good shoot and Daddy'll be cleared after the GJ hears the case.

My younger son & his family live over near 146, a couple of blocks off 96.
In talking with him, it turns out I may have exaggerated. The McDonald's is more like 4 blocks from the LCPD (instead of the 2 blocks that I initially reported).

I hope he lawyered up right away, especially with it being referred to a grand jury.
