I hope that I never see another LSU fan suggest that we should hire Ed O as our defensive coordinator. He has never even been a coordinator, and he seems to have the IQ of a tennis shoe.

His recruiting is way overrated, as the only top recruit he signed at Ole Miss was Oher, and he was a lock no matter who the coach was...his adoptive father was a basketball star at Ole Miss.

IMHO, we should not consider any candidate that doesn't have a track record as a D-coordinator under his belt (and that includes Dunbar). Being a good position coach and a good guy does not predispose to being a good coordinator.

There are a lot of "big" names mentioned here as potential DC for LSU, but how many are actually legitimate prospects. LSU is at a pinnacle right now but I am sure there are limits.

8. Brad Peveto. Was DC for one year with Mid. Tenn, don't believe he'd be a good choice for us though

He was a DC for NSU too, the "Purple Swarm" was highly ranked all his years there.

..and Co-DC for Houston - he'd be the best candidate for interim, should Bo not be available

Say Bo leaves, do we hire a defensive coordinator right away and have him prepare for OSU? Or do we give the OSU job to someone in house familuar with our defensive system?

I don't think Muxchanp should be on anyone's list of realistic possibilities. He's already dond a stint as LSU's DC. Why would anyone as young and as marketable as he is, and with higher aspirations for his career than being a college DC, take a step backwards. And note, I didn't say down, nobody would argue that moving to LSU from Auburn is a step down. But it would be a step back, and in any career that's a bad move.

How about the PITT D-coordinator?

Paul Rhoads should get a look, and not just because of the WV game. His overall body of work is pretty impressive. Last year not so much, but if you look at the years that he's had some talent to work with he's performed very well. We all know talent is not a problem for the Tigers. Hard to tell about his recruiting skills. The last couple years have been great, but he's been there 8 or 9 seasons. Looks like it might have been Wannstedt that stepped it up.

Paul Rhoads

Notice towards the bottom of the page, he was his HS's valedictorian. Not exactly your typical football coach.

I'm not saying he's definitely the guy, but I do think he's worth a look. Thoughts?

Orgeron was the DC AND HC at Ole Miss in 2005 and 2006. He "turned over" the DC position to John Thompson in 2007.

HB, you want Mark Dantonio, who is the head coach at Michigan State, to take a huge paycut to come be defensive coordinator at LSU?
