Went there tonight and was a little underwhelmed to be honest. My wife had the calamari (which I thought was somewhere between ok and above average. I had the BBQ shrimp which was flavorful but incredibly difficult to peel.

I guess what I'm posting this for is to ask, how does this place compare to others as far as the bbq shrimp is concerned? I've heard so much about that dish but as stated earlier, was underwhelmed. Is this just the wrong place to get it?

Pascal Manale's is the standard unit of measure. They introduced it.

Deanie's is hardly a place to go to be blown away, IMO

Underwhelmed? You have to have expectations in the first place for that to happen. It's Deanies. In Metairie.

That place is about 20th on the list of fry houses when I'm looking for food in that category in the NOLA area.

My favorite muffalatta is R&O's.

I haven't eaten at Deanie's but maybe a few times and that was a long time ago. I didn't find it to be very good. I didn't have bbq shrimp. I like Mr. B's bbq shrimp. I find Manale's to be tasteless and heavy on oil. The oysters rock there, though, rock.
