British guy reviewing it has an obvious case of rustled jimmies. Of course a Brit is going to have issues with an American propaganda film.

240+/- years later and the British are still butt hurt they lost the war. Get over it.

Exactly. A British guy is go ng to argue that the movie is inaccurate because Mel's character cites taxation without representation, but in REALITY this didn't exist - they were British subjects so the WERE represented.
Then they are going to point out the differences between Mel's character and a historical character upon which his character was LOOSELY based?
The guy doesn't realize this isn't a documentary with the names changed?
ETA: Never understood the Patriot haters - every time I catch this movie I have to watch it. And it has a one of the greatest movie scenes of all time (by the creek).

That was not amazing. I did love the cut away to a SG-1 scene with Ben Browder. That brit should head his own advice about quality content. The last half of that video was hard to listen to. The Patriot was not meant to be a documentary.

Please, back up your opinion with reasons why you reached this conclusion.

I guess you didn't catch the purpose of the review. The reviewer is a historian who reviews films using historical accuracy as his main baseline.
The Patriot, while entertaining, has some of the worst history I have seen in a film that has been made in the last 20 years.

criticizing a roland emerich movie for historical accuracy is like criticizing a porno for its nurses not checking a temperature correctly

It's a popcorn flick with muskets and way too easy false manipulations...
I mean the Brit guy is right - I don't why he's so incredulous - he should know it wasn't intended to be accurate.
But he is right, the movie goes way over the top in actually being dishonest and way too modern PC...that's why it's not that good of a movie - it doesn't respect the audience at all.

There are an alarming number of people out there who use movies to tell them what certain time periods were like. The Patriot creates a false narrative, painting the British as monsters and completely glossing over slavery. It refuses to respect the intelligence of its audience.
