How good they were and how they won the game by themselves...

Amazing stat...

Ravens, Bucs, Bears, Seattle, Steelers, Dallas, etc.

Somewhere behind 2000 Ravens, along with every other defense

They really did. Pretty amazing.

Special Teams helped.

I rank them slightly behind Trent Dilfer's Ravens defense.

Listening to Russillo & Kannell, and some of the stats they are reading off are pretty unbelievable.

I think Denver had like the 7th least total yards of any team in Super Bowl history. Out of 100. And they won the game.

Denver had 130 total yards after their first drive (13 possessions). That's almost impossible.

On plays when Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware both rushed the passer (16 times), Carolina had -33 total yards.

Denver had 11 first downs. Only 8 that weren't as a result of a penalty.

Anyways, Denver's defense is probably one of the top 2 or 3 defenses since the 2000 Ravens. I'd rather have a defense dominated by a pass rush (Denver) than one dominated by the secondary or back 7 (Seattle).

They are perfectly structured. 2 elite pass rushers, really good underrated 3 man DL, solid MLBs, 2 shut down corners and a guy in Roby who would start for almost every other team.

ehh i dunno. Seattle absolutely dominated and destroyed a Denver offense that was much better than this carolina offense. Denver was kind of feast or famish yesterday. The d-line made some huge plays, but if they didnt get to the qb Carolina hit some long plays down the field.

The Denver d-line played as well as any d-line I've ever seen, but overall that Ravens and Seattle defense were better.

Denver nearly became the first team in NFL history to win the Super Bowl without scoring an offensive touchdown, only finding the end zone with a few minutes left in the game, and only thanks to a turnover by the Panthers near the goal line and a dumb holding penalty against Carolina when Denver had failed to convert on third-and-goal.

Yeah, but even though Peyton had an amazing year that season, his lack of arm strength fed perfectly into Seattle's hands in that game. We've seen what Brady and Cam were able to do to Seattle's defense. I'm just saying that if you're going up against an elite quarterback, they are going to get you sometimes no matter how good your secondary is.

Brady and Cam both had no chance against Denver's defense. Constant pressure. They couldn't get their feet set. Cam had 10 overthrows last night, which tied a Super Bowl record. You have to believe that's directly tied to the pressure Denver had on him. He had guys open, but he was flustered and unable to stand tall and set his feet and make good throws.

Probably in the 5-7 range. During my lifetime, I think the 2000 Ravens and 2013 Seahawks were better.

I'd put them below that sick nasty Ravens defense and probably 2013 Seattle.

I'm only 27 so honestly I cannot really judge anything earlier than 1996 or so.

Of the top statistical defenses in history, I don't believe a single one played after 2000 (2008 Steelers and 2013 Seahawks came close) for the regular season.

It just shows you how the game has changed to prevent maulings. So what Denver did was pretty amazing fighting against all the disadvantages they had.

2000 Ravens were still playing in the old NFL before the "offense-first" rule changes and can't touch the QB.

I think in today's unbalanced game to favor the offense after 2004 - it's amazing what the Broncos did - against a Carolina team that was #1 in offense.

But that Seahawks D just looked more dominating...

2013 Seahawks D allowed an average of 14 points a game when the league average was 23 points a game.

2015 Broncos D allowed 18 points a game...but with little help from an offense that was 19th in the NFL while 2013 Seattle had the 8th best offense.

Top 5 all-time... Tough to compare eras though...The 1968 Colts were great... The Minnesota D's of the 70's were top notch[until the SB] The steelers of the 70's were All-Time great 1976 being the best EVER IMO... 1984 49ers were bigtime underated. The 1985 Bears and 1986 Giants were awesome... The 2000 Ravens were very very good.... 2013 Seattle was a brutal bunch....

Very good, perhaps in the top 10 all time, but nothing close to the 1985 Bears.

Broncos worst loss this season was 29-13 when Manning was sacked 5 times for 30 yards and had 5 turnovers.

Bears big loss was 38-24 to the Dolphins...where Chicago had more 1st downs, same total yards as the Dolphins and owned the time of possession.

Broncos D had a QB for most of the season who had one of the worst years in history...and then started a young guy getting his feet wet.

Bears had McMahon and Payton who both had great years.
