...via conference call. Escorted everyone out of offices nationwide with private security company. At least they paid us a severance, lol.

ETA: they axed the managers and support staff too.

Sorry to hear that. Didn't they layoff several senior Finance guys back in December? I know they had to overpay to keep certain talent after the crash and this was the byproduct. This sounds much worse then purging high salaries.
