Ford 6.7- A story for you all, Chad and Downshift, esp.

Well boys you won't believe it...
2011 F-250 6.7, 59,995 miles, all service performed per manufacturer's instruction, at the same dealership. Truck never missed a beat.
I take it in this morning for a little preventative maintenance, oil change and fuel filters, etc.
Service writer comes to get me after a couple of hours, "We need to talk."
"Um, your engine locked up."
"What?" (I figure he's joking with me.)
"We went to start it after the oil change and it wouldn't budge."
LSS, no truck, new engine coming from Ford. They don't know what happened. All bills to be paid by Ford, $15-20K is my guess. In a Tahoe as a rental.
Will uodate thread tonight. Headed over to get my stuff.
Never seen anything like it...
Update: May have the truck back this Friday (1/15).
Dealer says that they are sending the engine to Ford, but that Ford will not (never does) reveal the cause of the failure.
Also, cab does not have to come off for engine replacement.

Holy shite that is scary... I only have about 15k miles left on my power train warranty. 2012 F-250

damn, so you'll have a 2011 with zero miles.
i'd be hugging that guy, and getting his number so he can do it again on my next truck

I wonder what they could have done to lock it up? If it wasn't them, congratulations on being in the right place at the right time.

The hell, definitely post as you get more info.
Did the tech leave it running while draining the oil? Start it before putting oil in? Engines usually don't just lock up randomly for no reason. I'm not a mechanic but I've watched Powerblock before.

I think everybody was kinda shocked.
I think they all thought I was gonna flip out, but WTH, it wasn't anybody's fault.

My guess is hydrolock from a tech doing screwing up. Bet it has a cylinder full of brand new oil somehow.

DS, that truck ran perfect.
I was having them do the fuel filters also, but lock the motor up?
Dang...
They're gonna send it to Ford for analysis.

After all the horror stories I've heard about those over the years, I don't know how Ford still rolls so many off the lots. People love them, but you won't see me in one.
At least the dealership is doing you right.
ETA: I don't know any specifics about certain models - just know several people that have had different problems with F250's. I'm sure that's the case with all brands and models to some extent.

Stuff like this makes me want to make an irrational, knee jerk reaction. Like selling my 6.7 and going back to a 7.3. I haven't had any issues with it yet, minus a blown pinion seal and intercooler charge boot(happened right in front of the dealer) but new diesels scare the shite out of me.

The 6.7 has been, by and large, a pretty good engine.
Quite and powerful.
Kinda worrisome about the sudden granading though.

You've been waiting on this post.

Ehhhh it would take ALOT of excess oil to fill a cylinder up from the bottom. The easiest way for it to happen is through the intake.
Idk what the most likely way it happened to yours is, but I bet hydrolock is the culprit. A 60k mile engine doesn't seize up without running very hot for very long or running without oil pressure.

Wow I would buy a lotto ticket after that one.

Agreed.
I'm pretty hard on the cars, I go thru tires like I friggin' own Goodyear, but I petted that truck.

FWIW be prepared for ford to fight it. Hopefully they just fight it with the dealership as a technician frick up vs factory frick up and not "vette guy put super shitty diesel in it"
It could be an endless list of shite that causes a hydrolock alone much less all of the other shite that can seize it up.
Electronic engines use closed nozzle injectors so a fuel lock is almost impossible. I would bet money that a tech screwed up. Either he let it run with no oil pressure or filled a cylinder somehow.
