Wow. Not a car in the parking lot on the weekends at noon. Thought it was shut down.

That's ignorant. Richmond has some really incredible restaurants.

Baton Rouge has good variety of restaurants and a wide range of price points. I think being a college town, helps the market expand.

The bagel and fried egg look great but I don't know what else people eat in Alexandria that puts them on the culinary map.
I recently attended a really nice engagement party in Alex and the food was from "The Spoon" a caterer in Alex. They served shrimp and grits. I thought it was soup.

There are lots of good places, just not as many as there could be if we weren't a hub in the center of sparsely populated Parishes making up ripe for chains. That has really hurt the scene.

I worked for a caterer in college, so I know orders can get messed up, but to serve something and stand by it, is a totally different issue.
To me, it seems like Alexandria is stuck in a culinary identity crisis. There's very little authentic Cajun influence for example, which is unusual given the proximity to Lafayette, and I don't find a whole lot of restaurant options.
There is however, Inglewood Farms, and no farmer's market in the state can compare.
