This seems to be a situation in which it was a disadvantage in being white...if this were happening to two black guys, the outlandishness of the court behavior would have been immediately pointed out...

The justice system is stacked in the favor of the state no matter who is involved. Some groups just happen to have a higher percentage of folks getting involved.
It's really about being poor. Poor people get eaten up in the current system. In this case, I thought Steven's defense was as good as he could of hoped for. Those guys did a great job and in my mind raised reasonable doubt. He would have gotten worse had he not settled the lawsuit from the wrongful conviction.

I still can't believe his nephew is sitting in jail until he's 58 years old based on the evidence in the case. There has to be hope for overturning that conviction. I have no sympathy for the threats and harassment those will get who were involved in putting that kid away.

Len Kachinsky was a lowly public defense attorney.
He was smiling so smugly bc he was offered something as simple as invites to the judge and DA luncheons on Wednesdays from now on.

And he didn't have to do much, in fact, the less the better.

Well, Avery did hire 2 kick arse attorneys with his settlement. Which is another crime in itself. 18 years in prison after getting railroaded and basically has to hand over his civil settlement to defense lawyers after getting railroaded again.

Very likely they were only w/him b/c they were set to gain a ton of cash if he won. I highly doubt they would have worked with him if he wasn't due a massive settlement for being wrongly jailed.

Avery settled his federal suit for $400k while in jail for the Halbach murder in order to hire Dean Strang and Jerome Buting. He was initially suing for $36 million.

Rewatched it this past week while at home with my parents. They couldn't believe he was convicted either.

Watching it back a second time, its hard not to look at Scott Tydeck/Bobby Dassey as suspects, between them only being able to cooberate each others stories, both of them giving false testimony, and Tydeck trying to sell a .22 rifle days after the murder.

TLDR:

Railroaded by corrupt small town cops, sheriff and DA. Once the heat was on them giving depositions in a $36 million federal lawsuit, every law enforcement in the state circles the wagons and puts him back in jail. And to show their supreme power, they put a 16 year old Forrest Gump in prison for life just as a

Read the thread while watching and looked at the reddit and didn't see this posted.

I was juror #11 Excused after 4 hrs of deliberating. After reviewing all of the DVD's from dassey interrogations which were given to me by Dean and Jerry at the Dassey trial , hearing all the evidence in the courtroom and watching making a murderer. It is clear to me that Steven did not do this. Right when we got into the deliberating room to deliberate one of the jurors who is the father of the Manitowoc County sheriff's deputy shouted it out he's guilty and refused to look at the evidence. I also met with a juror after the trial and ask him why they convicted him and his statement was think of all the things he did when he was younger. Now if that's why they convicted him that is just one more reason to have a retrial, in my opinion. And so much didn't add up to Steven doing this. Rick the excused juror.

He has photos as well.  FB POST

Finished the first 9 last night and essentially the whole thing. Not even sure if we will watch the 10th episode that shows how the family is doing. Watching it waiting on the verdict my heartbeat started rising, I felt like my family was on trial. It made me sick when Steven was convicted. Part of me knew it was coming cause all the audio they had of Steven was through phone, but damn, what a punch to the gut. Also, Steven is not guilty of disposing the body but Brendan was? What? So this kid "admitted" to the crime, the rape, throat slashing, everything except the fire where they had to get it out of him that he saw toes in there and he gets that charge. WTF. Brendan's defense didn't give a shite. Poor kid. The whole time I watched I felt sorry for the whole Avery family.

Show this to your kids. make them understand to never talk to the police under any circumstance! nothing you say will be used to help you, only to hurt you! thats the lesson here.

this is one of the best shows I have watched. really well put together. If I was on the jury, no way could I have came back with guilty with no dna evidence.

other notes:

steven looked like a fat white trash kiefer sutherland.

his lawyer buting looked like tarantino.

the reporter with the dark hair and glasses that wasnt convinced was smoking hot.

the male reporter with the salt and pepper hair looked like the guy from catfish.

I'd place bets on Bobby Dassey.

Finished this a few days ago and had to binge watch it becuase it was so compelling. What a travesty...the authorities (all of them) are obviously corrupt and the guilty "beyond a reasonable doubt" gets totally thrown out the door.

I may actually write a letter to that county telling them to go f' themselves.

Just finished it. I think it's sad that if you are stupid/poor you can basically be the system's bitch. I don't think he did it. I wonder if the girl was hit by a car or something, and the cops found her and planted evidence.

SPOILERS:

If her throat was slit in the bed why was there zero blood? How was there zero blood in the garage? And spots of Steven's blood in the car but no prints? So we are to believe he wiped down the car but didn't try to wipe up blood? And left the car key in plain damn sight? So much doesn't add up, the jury must have consisted of retards and I will never set foot in Wisconsin.

The trial stuff should have been condensed to one episode. There was a lot in there they didn't need to touch on.

I found that the episodes definitely felt like they lasted longer than an hour, but I think it was because I was hanging on to every word because I was so interested.
