Houston coach Tom Herman is no longer a candidate to be the football coach at South Carolina, multiple sources have told Yahoo Sports.

Herman had been the school's top choice to replace Steve Spurrier, sources said, and third-party discussions had been extensive. But Herman has withdrawn his name from consideration, according to sources.

Herman could still be a candidate for other jobs, but the option of staying at Houston – with a loaded team for 2016 – appears to be a growing possibility.

Waiting for UT-Austin to open up.

I definitely want him.

I want him more than Jimbo. He's done exceptionally well everywhere he's been. Brilliant OC and brilliant guy all around. Good recruiter as well and we might just get Ed Oliver if we got him.

Of course he'd have to get a solid DC, but if he did, I think he'd be a superstar at LSU with our annual talent.

Agreed. However, I don't think LSU would hire him, and I think he's waiting on UT anyways.

Can't see this as a reason to hire a person. But your other points are valid.

We could hire much worse

Didn't say it was.

But it'd be awesome because we need front 7 depth like a mothafricka!

South Carolina is not a bad job at all. But why jump there now with the coaching carousel just getting started? LSU is going to be open, and if LSU get's their man, then FSU is now unexpectedly open. Southern Cal is still looking. The higher ups may deny it, but you can book Texas and Georgia are keeping their ears open

Richt gets another year almost 100% at this point.

Strong is 50/50 IMO. Lets hope that doesn't open because that immediately becomes a better opening than LSU, even with their problems.

He's got a proven, successful offensive mind. He can recruit.

AND....when he went to Houston, he made it clear that he had every intention of hiring a DC and letting him do his thing.

I think Strong gets another year. Of course, if Les does in fact get bought out, Texas should be getting nervous at the prospect of losing out on Herman who could be the longterm solution for them.

Interesting. I did not know that.

He's a great coach. That would suck in A&M got him. And you're right, I don't think UT would go after an A&M grad. Those people are cultish in their loyalty to their alma mater. Its like scientology of colleges.
