Apparently avocado toast is a big thing these days. I have never had it and only started to hear of it recently. Now I seem to see stuff about it everywhere. How do you prepare yours? Have you had it at restaurants? If so how was it prepared? TIA

Lemon, salt, and red pepper flakes. Sometimes a few drops of Sriracha.
ETA: Never ordered it in a restaurant. I think the only place I've ever even seen it on a menu was Shaya.

I eat this about once a week, when avocados are cheap. My favorite base is a thin slice of miche (sourdough part whole grain traditional French style loaf), usually from Breads on Oak. Very lightly toasted, generously smeared with smashed avocado, sprinkled with sea salt, a squeeze of lime or sprinkle of cider vinegar, and cracked black pepper. It's a pointless endeavor unless you have delicious bread and a very ripe avocado. To me, the base bread needs to be lean (i.e., not brioche or challah or squishy sandwich loaf) and distinctly flavorful....like a seedy multigrain.

I recently added some goat cheese to my avocado toast and it was delicious.

I make a sandwich with avocado slices, pepperoni, and swiss cheese, or whatever cheese I have on hand. Then grill it like a grilled cheese sandwich. Easy and delicious.

Try this one by Rick Bayless:

Roasted Tomatillo Guacamole with Crunchy Chicharrón - VIDEO

Avocados, tomatillo salsa, cilantro, salt, chopped pork skins, Mexican hot sauce, and shredded queso.

Serve with tortillas or spread on your favorite toasted bread.
