Suck at what? Pointing out that you guys have bad taste in music? That band had 3 chords in every fricking song. They're poser punk rock.

Dude, their whole genre is just stupid. It's "Pop-Punk." Punk is rooted in anti-establishment and anti-corporate movements. Blink's very essence contradicts this very message. You can't be a punk, and milk the very corporations you claim to detest.
They were a pop band who targeted adolescents who don't know anything about music. It's okay that you were in that target audience. You just need to realize after 15 years later that all their songs sounded the same and they are not a good band. I listened to a lot of shitty music as a kid too. Luckily I was old enough to realize how terrible Blink 182 was.

They were objectively great. They are one of the best indicator bands in history. You can instantly tell if someone has bad taste in music if they don't like Blink.
Just out of curiosity, what do you like?

This is my favorite music board thread in awhile. The 48 thing sealed it.

I listen to a lot of older music. Queen, Billy Joel, Beatles, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, The Meters, Fats Domino, etc.
As far as newer stuff goes I like Portugol The Man, Jack White, Beck, Gorillaz, Alabama Shakes, Givers... stuff like that.
If you're looking for music that I listen to that you can make fun of me for Rod Steward, REO Speedwagon, and Chicago are guilty pleasures of mine. I listen to a lot of rap too.

There has never been a group of more artistically gifted lyricists, than Blink-182. I mean just listen to the song Family Reunion.
The above statement was sarcasm.
For real though I used to love Blink from middle school through college and still own every album they have ever made. Every now and then when I have my iTunes on shuffle and a Blink song comes on I still find myself singing along like I'm still in 9th grade.
My favorite hit Blink song is probably Man Overboard and Mutt is my favorite "deep track" Blink song.

I was also a pretty big fan of Alkaline Trio so having Matt Skiba perform with them now is pretty weird/cool at the same time. Disappointing that it had to be because Tom is just a douche now.

They made a brand for themselves. They're easily recognizable, and have upbeat pop songs. They knew their songs well and were dynamic enough to make live shows decent. No one in this thread was giving credibility to their musical or lyrical depth.
I think everyone enjoys the memories attached to these songs just as much as the songs. If you want to say they aren't good musicians then thats fine, but neither are the people on mainstream today. Simplicity is beauty when done right and their studio albums captured that. As for his voice I can see where you're coming from as its nasally and not trained, and not everyones cup of tea. This board hates dave matthews voice where as I don't mind it but dislike Vedders voice.
But you're coming off as a dick.

Pop Punk is a compromise genre. It's essentially punk rockers "selling out", yet it yielded something actually pretty special. Pop Punk is an oxymoron, an irony, an enigma. It was propagated by corporations while simultaneously ridiculing them and showing them as ridiculous.
Look at Sum 41 vs Yellowcard. Sum 41's first big album was quintessential to the genre. It was poppy, simple, and well marketed, but "Chuck" was the opposite. It was darker, political, and openly mocked the record industry while also discussing the geopolitics of the Belgian Congo.
Yellowcard, on the other hand, went in the opposite direction. Their first album, Midget Tossing, may have been a lot of things, but pop wasn't one of them. It was thrashy, punk, and guttural. However, 2 albums later, they signed with a major label and changed their sound to the new corporate pop model. Their subsequent, and signature, album "Ocean Avenue" goes global. They embrace their pop image. However, that genre quickly falls out of favor and their new pop sound finds itself boxed in. They fail to evolve and get abandoned by the major labels after "Lights and Sounds".
On the flip side, Sum 41 continues to try to fight their pop image with "Underclass Hero", but the hypocrisy of fighting the establishment while simultaneously making money for those same people led their lead singer down a dark route of drug use and dispair, eventually leasing to rehab after a close call with overdose death.
Around the same time, travis barker is injured in a plane crash, sidelining Blink 182; Yellowcard begins fighting with their record label; and most other pop\punk acts either dissolve or fade into irrelevance. The genre dies.
I think a resurgence is in order. Inside of 5 years, people will tire of bro country and indie bands that all sound like the same haunting, spacey, ooh ooh'ing and nostalgia will bring the genre back. It was simply too marketable, too fun, too appealing to all demographics. What is dead may never die.
