Dude, their whole genre is just stupid. It's "Pop-Punk." Punk is rooted in anti-establishment and anti-corporate movements. Blink's very essence contradicts this very message. You can't be a punk, and milk the very corporations you claim to detest.

being pop-punk and raking in dollars off the sweat of your true punk predecessors is so punk

No one in this thread was giving credibility to their musical or lyrical depth.

Someone said if you don't like blink 182 you don't know good music which is so laughable it has to be a troll.
Also someone said they are the last real punk band which is also laughable because they were pop punk. But I'm glad you can admit they have no credibility as far as musical or lyrical depth.

If you want to say they aren't good musicians then thats fine, but neither are the people on mainstream today.

I never said today's mainstream music had talented musicians. Just because a lot of the music is bad today doesn't make Blink 182 any better

But you're coming off as a dick.

I'm sure I am. Everyone has that band they can't stand, don't get why other people like them & and wish never existed. Blink 182 is that band for me.

I think we just became best friends.

I know exactly what you're talking about. The production just seems so cheap and lazy but its popular right now so you can't fault the artists trying to make money. Just hallway effects and a shite ton of reverb and you got a new hit. As soon as these styles evolve you'll see which artists can change with the times and who is just riding the coat tails of their producers.

Close but not exactly it. I don't believe you even know anything about them. You just think it's cool to shite on them. There are probably threads for music you like. You should try those.

well 25 years of jazz and classical piano and 8 albums later gives you some perspective

Fair enough. I have my guilty pleasures too, and while I completely understand and grasp the shallowness in every aspect of almost every blink 182 songs, it always brings me back to earlier days of partying I guess

Yep, hate that sound, but it's all the rage. That's why my band has a much more hard rock and pop/punk feel to it. People want to be happy, people want to dance, and no one ever felt like a 10' tall bullet-proof badass listening to the Lumineers, but i bet you did blaring "Fatlip" in 8th grade.

Do you feel that same hate for The Beatles pre Sergeant Peppers? They were nothing but poppy 3 or 4 chord songs about dancing and holding hands and such. Blink was the 90's version of that same vein. Catchy, fun, and never taking themselves too seriously. The modern day equivalent in country music would be Brad Paisley, someone who simply has fun and never takes themselves too seriously.

It absolutely does. The thing is, that's not what's being discussed here.

I think blink got away with not being that tight as a group and held to a lower standard than most other bands. They were always being outlandish and crazy. Kinda like I wouldn't be surprised to see someone from Jackass doing something loud and shocking in public just because of how they've made themselves famous. So when the rhythm was off or the guitar was off no one cared because they were playing loud, fast and cursing while running around on stage. Furthermore people know what those songs were supposed to sound like because of the studio work. Is this fair? Probably not to actual artists in the pop scene that honed their craft like a Chris Thile or Ben Folds or someone like that, but there was money to be made off this sound and product.

Also I think they weren't that ridiculed due simply to what you said, they knew they weren't prodigies in music and never pretended like they were, just a fun time at a rock show with silly catchy songs. I think this is why people have so much distain for GA/FL Line because while they're doing the G,D, Em, C structure in every song and terribly simple redundant lyrics, they seem to think they're actually musicians. It's embarrassing and disrespectful to the studio players who actually make their albums have any sense of musicianship.

You think isbell is better at guitar than john mayer. Not much out of you should be taken seriously.

isbell is a better guitar player than mayer. just because mayer noodles over 12 bar blues doesn't make him a great guitarist. his licks are all stolen. he's garbage.

And anyone who says they are pop-punk is dumb as dirt. If you want to hear pop-punk, listen to All-Time Low.
