It happened last game...

When the punter doesn't get enough hang time to let the gunners get down the field allowing the returner to get a full head of steam.

Who cares if you can punt it 60 yards if when the returner catches it your guys are still 30 yards away. That's an easy 15 yards and if you make a man miss it is usually huge.

Yip, it's why hangtime is so important too. Long punts with little hangtime are suicidal. It's better to shank a 25 yarder that bounces another 15 than kick a 65 yard line drive. Everyone bitches about those semi-shanks, but 40 yards net is solid.

Means having no hang time and ball gets to the returner too soon.
