Bike lane controversy on Glenmore Ave in BR

Bikers want to have police ticket residents who park in front of their homes on bike paths. Residents in turn want bike lanes removed.
I side with residents on this. Bike lanes are a privilege not a right on city streets. Instead of carefully maneuvering around residents' cars they demand that residents be ticketed.
Many bikers have an arrogant attitude of entitlement. When I drive my car on the LSU lakes bikers are flying by endangering pedestrians and causing unsafe situations for vehicles. They act as if their bikes should always have the right of way instead of sharing the road.
Remove their bike lanes unless they learn an attitude of cohabitation on city streets.

Yup. BR is not built to be a bike friendly city.
The Lance Armstrong types need to realize this and get over it. Until then natural selection will just have to weed some out I guess.

I've noticed more and more bikers on Stanford in the middle of the right lane by the lakes, some fast some barely moving along. Makes it rather annoying during rush hour when there's one biker causing traffic

Maybe because the pedestrians don't know what side of the road to walk on.

Baton Rouge is definitely not a biker town.
Find somewhere else to ride.

wow you are a dumbass
people parking illegally should be ticketed. People bitch about cycilists on roads and now they're bitching about them in their own bike path

I've been following this since it started 2-3 months ago. After the few people got hit on their bikes. One biker was making an illegal turn, the other was actually hit by someone running a stop sign; the biking community went on a tear to demand safe streets. This included calling up BRPD to get the 4-5 people who parked in these lanes on Glenmore ticketed.
Biking community went with force, and residents responded accordingly. Had they come to a reasonable solution and conversation first, they wouldn't have come to this point.
I've biked/walked/run on Glenmore for over 6 years now, the street isn't so busy that cars, trash cans, walkers, etc. blocking the lanes cause an unsafe situation for the riders.
I think the lanes should stay, and common courtesy of the residents to use their driveways as much as possible lends a fair solution.
This has also turned into a have's and have not's issue. Seen a few posts on Nextdoor related to the wealth of Glenmore Ave. residents by the biking community.

There should be a rule that only people who have ridden bikes can post in this thread. That way, maybe something can get done...

You people would bitch at bikers even if they didn't bike

This street in particular isn't really about the "Lance Armstrong" types since it doesn't really get you anywhere that you can ride with any speed...

If they remove bike lanes they won't be parking illegally which is my argument dumbass.
