Do games with Rutgers count? Why?

No.

Why?
They are conference games.

I'm surprised your even arguing about conference strengths. It means very little.

I have always said that three games isn't enough to make much of a determination.

How bout those Toledo Rockets!
Based on what we have, all signs indicate the SEC is #1. There's a comprehensive table in case you want to visit Colley and see for yourself.

I didn't cite those games, you did. I simply isolated them to illustrate how skewed and irrelevant your information is at this point.
I'm glad you didn't have much else to say. Your footing went away quickly, and by now should be completely gone. Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Cincy has had some good teams. I say the American should count.

No you missed the joke. Rutgers is so bad they shoukdn't count like FBS games.

I didn't miss the joke, it just wasn't a very good one. As long as Kentucky, Arkansas, Vandy, etc count so does Rutgers.

What?
Kentucky is a pretty decent team. Arkansas, Vandy, and Rutgers...not so much.

I meant history between Big Ten teams and the schools, not necessarily a history of being good

Do games against Arkansas count?

slippery slope
...that ends up where, exactly?
The slippery slope is assigning arbitrary tiers to teams and possibility they impact the playoff picture based on this arbitrary assessment.
The Big10 is free to do what they want but I don't like the possibility that a win over Army and UConn is consider similar to wins over Oklahoma State and Arizona State, for example as some big marketing push.
"well, 1-loss michigan state has 8 conference wins and 2 other P-5 wins (Army and Uconn). Stanford also is a 1-loss team with 8 conference wins but non over P-5 teams, but did beat Boise and Air Force (insert any MWC team flirting with top 25). Michigan State has better schedule.
It's like college admissions. Student A has a 3.4 GPA and takes tough classes at great school. Student B has a 4.0 and has a joke classes but Student B gets in over A because the school (committee) just looks at paper and that differentiater is not even. Hopefully that doesn't matter because the committee is astute enough to realize.
I was going to use examples of good non-P5 teams but there are none in the top 25 (except BYU). But to that point, a win over 2015 Toledo, Houston, or Boise should be given more credit than wins over Kansas or Washington State regardless of tiers.

Slow down. Beating South Carolina doesn't make Kentucky a decent team. They're still Kentucky.

Do you consider IU a decent team?
I think they would beat UK. UK would go for about 500 on them and give up 550.

I tend to think the only people not looking at individual teams to determine such things are CFB broadcasters and fans. The people in charge of the playoff I truly believe look at each individual team and determine what is a quality win.
I.E. Team A beats team B by 15 at home but Team C beats Team B by 2 on road with injured RB. I would think, and hope, that Team C got the better quality win.

You're right. Beating South Carolina doesn't make them a decent team, but they are.
eta: And by "decent" I mean, at the very least, they're certainly worthy of "P5" status in this scenario. Without a doubt. All those teams are, really, except maybe Vandy this year.

Not really, but they're on par with the bottom teams from other conferences. They also aren't far removed from a win over the SEC East champ.
