the first time we ate a real meal once the restaurants started opening up again after eating crackers and peanut butter for 2 weeks.
I had a freezer full of food slowly thawing. I would sneak off in the woods with a large pot and put it on top of a propane grill. I went through $375 worth of king crab legs, had to though. Made sure that my grand mother and my great grandmother all ate well.

Was living in Houston, had a bunch of family staying with me. Remember it being Labor Day so I was off of work. Time Warner Cable had a channel that was rebroadcasting WWL feed. I remember there was some concern about the levees on the Industrial Canal, which were still not in great shape at the time. They had a camera focused just off the Claiborne bridge that they kept showing. Every once in a while water splashed over the wall, but it held.

We had a 30ft tree in our backyard that snapped in half and THANK YOU JESUS that it fell into our swimming pool instead of the other way, which woulda been right into our house.
Out of power for about a week and a half.
My grandparents in the other hand had bad roof damage and the insurance company that they are with (which was a well known BR agent) was playing games with them about the claim. My grandpa kept that blue tarp on their roof for about 3 years and hounded the insurance commissioner about it for a good while.......insurance finally got it right and fixed it.

Had moved to BR from Central IL the year prior. Lived in an apartment but had a decent job so bought a new truck that represented 92% of my net worth at the time.
A month or so prior to the storm a random girl I met at the BR airport (IRL 4, OT 0.7) drunkenly via text offered to pay for my flight to DFW to be her wedding date. I drunkenly accepted. I soberly regretted that decision the next day - but didn't know what to do about it, turns out she bought the ticket later that night. And face it, it's kinda cool being a literal man-whore. The day of the wedding turned out to be the day Gustav hit.
The day before the wedding Gustav was about to hit. I skip the flight and drive my truck to Dallas, as it was my only possession I cared about.
The night Gustav hit I remember getting a sad handy while watching my new home town get wrecked by a hurricane on TV. I later used that plane flight, which I was reimbursed for since it was in my name, to go see another girl.
Also, got two free days off of work because I "evacuated" to Dallas and couldn't drive back because Gustav sat and spun above Shreveport for a few days.

I met my wife after getting invited to go straight to a tailgate from the bar due to the moved up game time for App State.
Parents picked me up from my apartment to leave town after the game. When I came back Brightside was like the o ly place in town with electricity. Our apartment was packed. Every night was parties. Doesn't feel like that long ago.

False. Tickets are non-transferable.

It ripped the roof off of my apartment at LSU. It had to be gutted and it took 9 months before it was fixed. It was a nice birthday present.

Weddings on any day of a natural 3 day weekends are extremely popular - best accommodates out of state travelers. I think the wedding was on the Sunday so I may be remembering the coverage wrong?

Damn I can't believe it has already been that long since Gustav hit. I remember it like it was seven years ago today.

I recall sitting in my neighbor's living room, with a fan and a generator going, watching the Republican convention and fighting a hard on when Palin was giving her speech.

I had a teacher at LSU deduct points for me not going to class and missing a daily quiz in order to salvage what was left of my apartment. I explained the situation and she did not care. I emailed the provost and she got dealt with and gave the whole class 100s.

Your company buys your ticket, you don't make the flight, they get the credit, they get the miles ..

If direct billed through a travel agency, yes. Miles earnings will vary. Never heard of an employer withholding the miles earned from the employee. But if it's like my company where I pay for my flights with company CC directly on the airline site, I'm earning the miles and the ticket is not transferable.
If I paid for your ticket via my personal card, the residual value of the unused ticket is yours and yours only. I have no claim to that fare.
