re: Why not work on developing our offense against McNeese?

LSU will work on all phases of the game. Theres way more going on than just powering over them even on dives. We don't know much about them and they are certainly going to try to out scheme us. Each coordinator is chomping at the bit to see their guys against anyone. There's question marks in several places.
We are a pro style ,control time of possession, offense. Great preparation for the NFL btw. The star of the team is the defense and keeping them fresh is a priority. Their job is to keep us in good field position. Many high schools, colleges and pro teams have won championships doing this.Seattle does this, so did Alabama until last year when they had Cooper. Finding the Qb is the missing link.

What is at issue is what the staff's of our opponents think about LSU's O. If we can show an effective passing attack and force DC to play us honest or God forbid even play more nickel or dime against us, just think how more effective our running game could be.
I don't see many advocating moving away from being able to use a power running game but adding an effective passing attack sure couldn't hurt.
I know you probably became a fan last year, but 2 seasons ago we had a 3000 yard passer and 2 1000 yard receivers

We know how to game plan better than these coaches. Geez.

Just line up and pound us. No need for any passing.

Mett threw it 26 times in his first game in 2012, and 32 against TCU in 2013. Jennings and Harris combined for 20 attempts last year against Sam Houston State, including throwing a TD in the 4th quarter while already up big. I know it's cool to hate on our "stone-age" offense, but the ball is in the air more than people think. It was just executed SO bad last year there was no choice but to run 3/4 of the time.

Fair enough....but do you have evidence to the contrary?

Just think about how effective our passing game can be if they stack the box against us and we throw all night.
I swear...the amount of coaches on this board astounds me. Who knew we had dozens of the greatest football minds assembled here at the ready to coach our coaches up!

I mean, the offense has been pretty much the same since Les got here.
that is not true
2007/2008 and then 09/10 we tried to do some real crazy stuff...spread option, "look at me", etc
it wasn't until 2011 that les went to this dinosaur offense almost exclusively when we had a hint of QB issues

because "working on developing our offense" is basically giving the upcoming SEC opponents your gameplan...
We'll open up the secret playbook in the playoffs

Did we not still run the shite out of the ball?

we are not going to just power over Alabama. I thought the goal was to win the SEC west, then the SEC, then the NC. You aren't going to be facing teams you can just power over. What's wrong with getting an offense going right from the start so that when you face those obstacles you are ready for them. Why wait until game week of those games and at that time trying to install an offense that has a chance of winning those big games. It's not tipping your hand, it's developing your offense.

or we could just keep the game close, keep grinding at them until we wear them down, and win a close one at the end. go tigers

Instead of just lining up and powering over McNeese with our run game why not open it up a little and work on the offense. Just because we can beat McNeese with the run, whether they are stacking the box or not, doesn't mean that is what we should do. That game plan is not going to work against the better teams we play so why not work on the whole offense right from the start?
They'll do some stuff because they play Miss St the very next week on the road, but don't expect more than 22 passes. I do think he'll do some things just to get MSU thinking, like running the jet sweep a few times with no faking, but then throw a pass or hand off to Fournette when it's done at MSU.
I expect the RBs to run the ball at least 35 times and then you have QB runs and WR runs. We'll run somewhere between 70 and 80 plays and account for 550 to 600 yards of offense.

First, if McNeese is a close game regardless of how many times LSU throws the ball, this is a big negative for our hopes this season.
Second, State and Auburn will stack the box and press our WRs at the line regardless of what LSU does against McNeese. Every team will do this until the Tigers prove they have a better passing game and can burn the defense with the pass.
This is so obvious. Oh and guess what: on defense whomever is opposite T White will get passes thrown their way much more than White until the other CBs can prove they can play with the big boys.

Not much point arguing this and most who commented on my post totally missed the point.
My point again is it doesn't matter what I think or any of us think about our O. The only thing that matters is what opposing DC's do. They get paid just like our staff does and they try to exploit perceived weaknesses just as our staff does.
However since several have mentioned 2013 would it surprise you to learn that Mett attempted 296 passes in 12 games that year? It wasn't like we were throwing the ball a ton.
We attempted 276 in 13 games last year.
That's about 3 more pass attempts per game.
No we did not have a radically different offense with Mett in terms of game planning and play calling.
What we had was better overall efficiency in general and other worldly effectiveness on 3rd down.
Mettenberger was 58-for-89 for 974 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception on third down according to ESPN Stats & Information. Of those 58 completions, 21 went for 20 yards or more. That's just awesome numbers.
Third down effectiveness was the big difference not the offensive philosophy in 2013.
Again tho it's not worth arguing. I am on board with Harris having a big year and continuing our ability to generate an effective power running game.

15 passes, maybe 17 total.

Yea i can't belive they wait until SEC play to work on route timing and cowboy secondary would be more representative of SEC than the shite LSU fields in practice, sheeesh!
