most matters yes, but this is a big job that is going to tear apart my yard and needs more pipe

And it wasn't being supervised. There are some particulars about my property. shite, I had an ice chest full of bottled water for them. I needed to see if they needed access to the garage today and about two of the heads.

I last spoke to the guy briefly 2 weeks ago and he doesn't even show up and probably didn't intend to...that's bullshite

Yeah, I didn't call anyone messican

I asked them if they spoke English, I asked them if they had a contact number. Then I told them to leave

You weren't wrong, but you should have asked the company who they were going to use up front if that was a concern.

You know you can use today's phones, Internet and other devices to translate? Asking where is the boss would take like 1 minute to google on your phone.

You were scared and freaked out. You overreacted and now all of your grass is going to die.

Why would you live in Austin if you hate Mexicans so much?

By high end I mean this company was going to install it in the most efficient way. You're paying them for logistics and labor not for the heads and pipe

Total bullshite to not have someone there I can talk to when starting a job

No, my grass looks great because I have to do all of this shite. Apparently that will continue until the second week of September

I don't feel I didn't lose anything. I don't want that company touching my property.

And I'm not going to google translate shite while I'm doing things around my house. I'm sorry, $5800 and I have to google translate? frick that

I did ask them upfront. I made sure they didn't subcontract it out too. I don't even care who they used so long as they were professionally supervised. No manager on site just a few strangers I can't speak to destroying my yard with heavy machinery. No thanks

You've said you aren't stupid, but you keep showing your ignorance thinking just because they don't speak English that they are illegally working.

You sound terrible and trying way too hard to feel important.

If you hired a reputable company, why do you care who they sent out? If you've spoken with the project supervisor and have a quote for a job, then let them do the job and if it isn't right, you have every right to make yourself whole. If you wanted to change the scope of the project and needed to speak with somebody before they began, sure, but it's a frickin sprinkler system.

I've said I don't know if they were illegal "people who didn't speak English"'didn't fit in the title

I don't give a shite if they were illegal.

I'm stupid? You're welcome to have 3 strangers, unsupervised who you can't speak with come dig up your property with heavy machinery

What project manager. He was on his way still 30 minutes after they arrived

I spent 40 minutes trying to get someone on the phone

It's a frickin sprinkler system? Do you know how badly a poorly installed sprinkler system can frick up your property?

And when you pay top dollar for professionalism and reputation and you get 3 people who can't speak to you and just say "no" at your house for 35 minutes ready to dig up your yard? Are you crazy. Reputable company, that doesn't mean I'm going to ignore major red flags

So the project manager was on his way 30 minutes after they arrived? Maybe they got there early looking to beat the heat.

Still haven't said if there was (A) a contract stating the work to be done or (B) plans listing what and where was to be installed so I am guessing no on both. Which means you didn't get a high end company. You probably got the name of the company from a friend but that doesn't mean they are a good company. Also throwing around how much you are spending doesn't mean you are getting a good deal or mean that they are a high end company.

Did you do any research on the company by getting the names of previous customers that you could contact or look at work they have done?

There are way too many "contractors" that aren't really contractors. They may do great work but they are a risk for you when things go wrong. Spending the money on a company that actually does things correctly means situations like you are describing don't happen. Because you will have the name and cell number of your project supervisor. They may not be there the second the crew shows up but you know who to call to get when you have questions.

And no I am not a contractor :)

Let's say you had 5 workers there. That's at least 25 kids that won't be able to eat beans tonight cause their fathers had to drive (burn fuel) from south Austin all of the way across town, for nothing. Its not like they had another job lined up. So sad.

Not reading all ten pages but how exactly do you know they were illegal? There are plenty of legal people here who can't speak a word of English.

ETA: Nevermind, I see your post above where you state all you knew is that the didn't speak English.

I still don't see the problem though. You were right to want an English-speaking foreman you can talk with onsite but I wouldn't have kicked them out.

I threatened to report him if he tried to collect on anything. I couldn't get him on the phone so when I got someone I told them, if he wants the cancellation fee or to try and stick me for any amount of the work I'll gladly go to court after having a conversation with some people about his hiring practice

frick this guy. i paid for him to be there and he wasn't. End of fricking story.

I don't know, nor do I care beyond this guy skating on the cost of what I'm paying him the most for

Proper installation

They were in all likelihood illegal though, because I have a proper set of eyes. These were 3 rough looking dudes. And that would've been fine if i knew what they were saying. I wasn't outrageous to them at all. I was in their presence for a grand total of 120 seconds and wasn't impolite. Maybe they perceived it that way be used I don't speak Spanish and they don't speak English

The fireworks went off when I got the foreman on the phone. Finally.
