According to Forbes, Amazon killed it yesterday despite the shitty deals.

quote:

Amazon’s press release attempted to give a different perspective on Prime Day. The company said that customers ordered 34.4 million items across the nine Prime-eligible countries, which averaged to about 398 items sold per second. The company, however, did not release how much revenue or profits it took it from the sale and it’s hard to discern that from the numbers given that a unit sold, could range from a flatscreen television to a stick of deodorant.

There is no way in hell they're getting 34 million orders to people's doorstep by Saturday. Both of my orders are still pending shipment.

Also, if you looked close some items said 3-5 day prime shipping. So it seems they covered themselves on some items.

3 of the 4 things I bought were shipped. And the 4th along with another weren't "deals" just regular things I needed.

Ordered a digital caliper yesterday morning. On my doorstep by 10AM this morning here in Jax. I think Amazon has this distribution thing figured out.

All of mine are on the way except the one thing I did 3-5 day shipping . The one being delivered by USPS is the one I'm most worried about

The one item I purchased said it would take 3-4 weeks to ship. So I think they covered themselves on a lot of those situations.

If you noticed and many of us used it, they offered Gift Card exchanges if you selected a different shipping option.

Their marketing was amazing. Simply saying it would be have more deals than Black Friday and releasing a few items to be featured. Last Black Friday was the biggest sale they ever had at $5.5 million items sold.... They beat that 6 times over yesterday. Insane.

Profit margins aside. You know there will be tons of people that signed up for the prime free trial and forget to cancel and get charged the $99. I'm sure that will more than makeup for the shortfall caused on the majority of the deals.

They coordinate with the carriers future demands so they have a flexible supply chain to make it work. They are smarter than you think.
