Drug dealer in Nola acquitted bc ADA doesn't ask what parish crime occurred in

DEA agents said their confidential informant purchased 4.5 ounces of cocaine and 22 grams of heroin on three separate occasions in 2011 and 2012. In each buy, the informant, equipped with a body camera and microphone, went to what prosecutors said was Williams' "drop house" in the 3000 block of Second Street, near Claiborne Avenue, and purchased the drugs.
During the trial, prosecutors presented video of the encounters, and DEA agents testified about their roles in monitoring the investigation.
"This guy is a large-scale dealer," Cannizzaro said. "I wonder how many people have lost their lives because of the heroin Mr. Williams put out on the streets. I wonder how many lives have been ruined because of the cocaine Mr. Williams put out on the streets. ... He deserves to go to jail for the rest of his life."
But one thing the prosecutors failed to do in court this week, Fuller argued, was prove that the alleged drug deals happened in Orleans Parish. He said the judge only heard references to a Second Street address, when there are streets with that name throughout the state. "During the course of this trial, none of the agents or the snitch testified this happened in Orleans Parish," Fuller said.
Seems fishy
I'm not a defense attorney. Is it standard procedure to ask what parish the crime occurred in?

Sounds like someone got a big wad of cash pushed under the DA table

Why should it matter? A crime is a crime no matter where it happened.
Probably the judge since its Nola.

No one deserves to go to jail for the rest of their life for selling any amount of drugs

Yes.

Seen a similar scenario where the ADA failed to have the witness point to the defendant.
The attorney showed the defendant's license to the witness and asked if that was the person who committed the crime, but the ADA forgot to establish the ID was of the defendant.
Judge found the defendant not guilty

Meh. I am betting that there is a search warrant or some other document in evidence that establishes the location. I wonder why a DEA case is being prosecuted in state court?

You've gotta establish the court has jurisdiction to hear the case. It is actually a simple thing to establish but a flub that happens more often than you would think

Serious legal question- does this preclude the state from charging him again under double jeapardy? I would imagine so, but I am no lawyer.

I would say yes but given the fact that he's a dealer, there will be more opportunities.

When they get to the point where they have drop houses and elaborate schemes/setup, then I could care less how long they go for. Just scum

I love NOLA but I would never live in that cesspool

It's not like this guy is going to walk free. They will try him in whichever district court they finally decide the crimes occurred. They obviously still have the evidence. That is not going away.

The ADA who F'ed this up is probably getting reamed behind the scenes...poor bastard screwed up a DEA bust by screwing up establishing jurisdiction?
I'm hoping there is more info that the article just fails to include out of a lack of legal knowledge

In the probable cause, RAP sheet, and in the reports the address and ZIP code is clearly listed. In the probably cause it even mentions the parish that the offense occurred.
