I do have a nice hatchet that I keep handy. I've Been wanting to buy a decent hand gun recently but Not sure what kind I want to get.
Any recommendations from you gun owners?

This is why people own pit bulls. Time to invest

12 gauge pump action hands down. The pump action sound alone will make anyone think twice. Also you hardly have to aim it.
Remington 870 is a nice reliable place to start. Cheap too.

I second the 870 pump 12 gauge.
Also, never rack the slide. Once someone is in your crib, you give no warnings

Patterson is gangsta. No doubt. Essentially the deepest part of the ditch.

What will the gun be used for? Im assuming personal protection with the spirit of the thread. Will this be a home defense weapon only or a home defense/truck/possible carry option multi-purpose gun? There is no perfect gun for every situation, but there are certain models that make great compromises and can be very versatile. If you're looking for home defense only, then a full sized polymer 9mm is the way to go.

Not sure about gun protection in LA but I'd rather not even have to fire myself.
No way in hell I wanna be one of those people getting sued for shooting a you know what in my own house trying to steal my shite or hurt my family.
I'd prefer they just GTFO out when they hear the slide callack.

We're not going to start a pissing match or debate in here, but this couldnt be further from the truth. Pumping a gun wont scare anyone that is intent on bringing harm to you and your family, and your thinking so is evidence that you are not mentally prepared to defend your home. You are in denial. Also, the overwhelming majority of home invasion shootings are less than 15 ft. Have you ever seen what the pattern of 000buck out of a 12 gauge is at 5 yards? Smaller than a baseball.

Man, you have the wrong mentality. You need to seriously evaluate whether or not you want to defend yourself and your family or not, because this mentality will get you in big trouble in the unfortunate event that something actually does happen. You need to develop the exact opposite mindset of what you have right now.

will never understand how an adult in our society, a society in which we have the right to bear arms, does not own at least one firearm.
Never had the need for one in my home. Don't think any of my gun owning friends have ever used theirs to defend their family/home.

Better to have it and not need it.

Never once had to use mine outside of the range. It's just a comfort knowing I have it just in case.

The first round in my .45 is rat shot.
If I have to let one go, it's non lethal. You should leave after that first shot.
If not, well, the rest are gonna hurt more.

This will, at a minimum, give away your position of they haven't already seen you. It is more likely to get your arse shot.

Ever experienced a break in?
I have, and it was a 14 and 15 year old kid trying to steal some beer and booze.
Not trying to end a kids life for doing something stupid.
The point was I'd much rather have it and not use it then the opposite.

You might ask the cops if they sent anyone to the apartment complex, maybe they knocked down the wrong door. Also could be the fire department, I once came home to a broken in apartment because the neighbor below me had water coming into his apt, couldn't get the apt manager on the phone and incorrectly assumed I was the source of the leak and called the fire department who had nothing better to do than break my door down.
