This is bad advice. All you need is a double barrel shotgun. When the robbers break in, just walk outside onto your upstairs balcony and fire two blasts into the air. Anyone who was breaking in will be forced to now flee.

This will, at a minimum, give away your position of they haven't already seen you. It is more likely to get your arse shot.

If they're already in the frickin house, pretty hard not to wouldn't ya say?

Unless you plan to point the frickin thing at them without actually putting a shell in the chamber.

So now you have an empty weapon. What if they don't leave?

Yea but it could have been anyone at the time is my point.

I agree with your point given the situation, but a guns blazing mentality is not something I'm down with.

I realize some our in the camp of you break in, you die regardless. But that ain't me. shite happens and kids/people do stupid shite sometimes.

I have a safe that only I can open.

It's not as hard to be a responsible gun owner as it's made out to be

No one said guns blazing. You are ignorant if you think your leaving the gun "unchambered/racking the slide/it's a shotgun, no need to aim right" leaves you any safer than someone completely unarmed. You are wrong. This is not up for debate.

Shooting someone is a lose lose situation, but you are likely to get sued for using rat shot. You will be sued either way, but they have a stronger case if they live to tell the tale. In my CCW class the instructor said its not unheard of for people to loose everything except their lives even in a "good shoot" situation. The defense fees alone are capeable of bankrupting someone.

I live in Patterson Louisiana. Very low crime area.

It isn't a low crime area at all considering the population or lack there of. And it gets much worse every time the oilfield goes to crap. People keep it out of the paper because they don't want it to get out that they've been broken into. They were probably looking for cash, drugs, and guns.
