So I should remove the rat shot, is what you're saying.

I would. If you have to shoot someone because you are in fear for your life you shoot to "stop the threat". Sometimes that entails killing the individual. You are taking a chance by having rat shot being the first round. Have you seen the 21 foot rule drills (Tueller drills)? Rat shot would probably not neutralize a determinied individual. You would likely get off the first shot then there is a good chance the attacker will be upon you.

Not sure about gun protection in LA but I'd rather not even have to fire myself.

do you have to clean the criminal off your walls yourself or does the city send somebody out?

You're kind of a condescending prick

On alot of things, yes I am, and I will not debate that. When discussing something like this, especially when a person is so ignorant, you cant just say "ok, well good luck with that", when you know better.

Also, I may be condescending, but Im not wrong.

In my CCW class the instructor said its not unheard of for people to loose everything except their lives even in a "good shoot" situation. The defense fees alone are capeable of bankrupting someone.

Yep. And the reality of that situation is that it necessarily means that killing an intruder that you have to use your weapon on is more likely to lessen your troubles than not killing them. So you are effectively encouraged by rational thinking to kill for your own protection as opposed to taking the more humane or merciful route. You are more likely to end up on trial or penniless for not killing someone who intruded your home than shooting to kill from the outset.

Had a former police officer tell my dad and I that if you have to use your weapon on an intruder it is best to kill them outright for your own legal protection.

Any recommendations from you gun owners?

FNH just announced they are releasing a civilian version of the M249 SAW,
I suggest you get one of those if you really want to defend your apartment.

Nothing stolen? I'm going with the crazy Ex-GF theory. 1. Get a security camera at minimal 2. Get a pistol and concealed carry if you're not a liberal puss.

No crazy ex-gf but i think it could be someone I know trying to play a prank. Not a real funny prank tho to just bust the door in and that's it. Other thing could be that they were breaking in right when I was driving up.

I'm definitely gonna go get some kind of hand gun. Like I said, I've been wanted to get one for a while but just haven't pulled the trigger
yet.

Academy has a 9 mm Smith & Wesson SD9VE for $320 which may be what you're looking for in a home defense weapon. It doesn't have an external safety but has a 2 stage trigger and is pretty decent quality at a reasonable price.

If one of your friends is pulling a prank they have got to be one of the dumbest motgerfrickers on Earth.

I tried to get my regular arms replaced with bear arms, but the surgeon wouldn't do it.

I also have the right to a speedy and public trial, but I'm doing my best to not have to exercise that right.

This is bad advice. All you need is a double barrel shotgun. When the robbers break in, just walk outside onto your upstairs balcony and fire two blasts into the air. Anyone who was breaking in will be forced to now flee.

I didn't know Joe Biden was on TD. That's pretty cool.

By the down votes I'm receiving on my double barrel shotgun post, I think it's gone over a few peoples' heads.
