The time travel aspect worked for the first movie, but it made the second one incredibly stupid and killed the entire franchise. Well done, JJ.

That's what I'm worried about. I can see using Hamill and possibly one other character, but cramming almost the entire original cast into it is just to market it to older viewers. It's a business decision, not a creative one. But, this is the world we live in, one that stretches The Hobbit into 3 movies and invents female characters just to drag in the Katniss crowd.

Oh me too, but I'm intentionally keeping my hopes down. The last time I was this interested in seeing a sci fi movie was Prometheus, and we all know how much that sucked.

I listened to it...proven fake already....some of the music on it was from interstellar.

Damn I'm already so fired up for this movie... and its still 8 months away

I don't think that is what is happening here. If you're continuing the story, then obviously the original cast (the big 3) are kind of important.

leia is the queen
luke is the only jedi, and you can't have star wars without jedi

killing solo off screen is pretty much the lamest thing ever (see alien 3), and he at the very least deserves a send off if after 30 years he's still asking the director to kill him. he's also married to the queen and after the train wreck of the prequels, they have to feature the one thing that wasn't ruined...the millennium falcon.

now if they wheel out lando in the first sequel, and wedge, and ackbar and blah blah blah...then yeah they're really going for nostalgia instead of making a good movie (I guess you can do both)

if you look at the new cast, you see talent, and that really this movie will be the original cast handing it off to a new cast. nothing like bringing in nimoy to play a future spock to move the plot along for new spock. that was just to sell it to skeptical nerds.

the core star wars consumer has already taken it on the chin with the prequels. they don't need the original cast to sell this to anyone.

and while he butchered star trek, he butchered it because that's what he was told to do. Star trek is for nerds, and they wanted a huge mainstream audience.

every single interview has stressed practical effects and they shot on location, this is expensive, but it also lets me know that they understand the displeasure with the prequels. They emphasize this as a show of good faith that they are making the star wars that star wars fans want, and a mass audience will come along anyway.
