OT Lawyers: "Stand Your Ground" question (situation inside)

I was driving into the garage of my apartment complex the other day in Dallas, while a Man (not saying race) was unloading groceries with his kids. I'm driving through the "roadway" and his kid, who wanted to cross perpendicular to me, stops walking to let me go through. I proceed to drive on through to find a parking spot.
As soon as I park, the father pulls up in his truck, yelling out the window that i was going too fast and almost hit his kid. I told him his kid stopped for me and that I was sorry if he felt i was going to fast; It wasn't my intention (His kid was about 25 ft to my left, not even close).
long story short, the man continues to argue and then steps out of his car and rushes at me. From my perspective, it looked like he had the intention of trying to fight me. He was definitely trying to an intimidate and I felt threatened. I was also scared for my fiancee who was still in the car.
I was unloading groceries in the back of my car (where i also keep my shotgun), when he started arguing. When he started getting out his vehicle, I quickly loaded two shells. Before he was in my face another bystander yelled at him, and he went back in his truck and drove off.
If the bystander had not been there, I had every intention of drawing my gun and shooting this man. Not to kill; I can actually aim so I was going for his legs.
Question: Would I have been legally "right" in doing so?

Better to kill him.

Yup, then it is just your side of the story.

You draw a gun to kill...
End of story

Should've just told him to hold up for a minute, laid out some ground rules and fought him with your fists like a real man.

You should aim to kill. It's tough for a dead suspect to defend himself.

What was the mans race? That's important to a legal determination.

Why was your shotgun unloaded in the first place?

A shotgun to the legs would likely hit the femoral artery, which would almost certainly kill him.

If you shoot, shoot to kill

I think if you would have just showed him your shotgun, he would have shut the frick up and went on with his day.

A dead person can't sue you or press charges.
Any smart cop, DA, defense attorney, or judge will advise you to shoot to kill.

Well he'd sue you to oblivion.

Stop driving like an a-hole.

Exactly. Loading up your shotgun is a high school move.
Grownups tell the on coming man to wait, explain the rules of engagement, then put their dukes up.

I played the odds
