The reason you bunt, other than obviously putting a runner at third with less than 2 outs, is to take the double play out of the equation.

Lester, what would you have done in that situation not know what we know now?

lol, that's why you started this thread. Nothing to do with bashing Mainieri

well if your remember it stemmed from people saying PM let Deichmann hit away because of ego.

I never said bunting was wrong. Im just saying the move PM made to let him hit away is a move that is not new to baseball, especially for a LH hitter with a low chance at rolling into a DP.

what should I have said? That Deichmann was only faster that day a scout happened to time them both?

We all hoped he would have a productive at bat. Hope doesn't mean shite. Putting yourself in the best position to win does. And the odds say to bunt. It doesn't make it an okay decision that he should make. He's admitted this. Why can't you?

Wise choice. He was asking for Twitter questions earlier and I felt like tweeting "Do you know anything about the game of baseball?"

It's sad because I think the media coverage LSU baseball gets is largely intelligent, but because he's with the advocate, he largely overshadows anything Rosetta and the like do.

I like discussing, not bashing. If this was a bash thread I'd be e-high fiving bayoubengals225 and going crazy of our "weak" schedule.

the fact is that he hit poorly in the fall and has been 0 for so far...you are right lester, coaches let guys hit through situations like this all of the time but normally it's their best hitter or one of the best. Deich is a great talent but not someone to let swing away in that situation

The other guy that covers baseball for the Advocate isn't bad.

Isn't he just like a Reveille intern, though?

I see. You were defending his thought process? Not the decision itself? I think they go hand in hand. To me, it was an obvious, black and white time to bunt. One of the rare ones.

There shouldn't have to be a thought process. If he has to justify swinging away with "lefty" and "fast" and hope for the best, then we have bigger problems. You and I apparently thinking bunting was the right call... And cub and cap and so many others. He should have too. Without hesitation.

And maybe it was just a mistake. That's fine. I can understand why people attribute it to his ego though. They're trying to justify it somehow because it seemed so obvious.

Berecca?

James Moran is a good one. Not many tweets but he's just as quick with the lineups which is all Dellenger was good for.

I was just trying to say that it is a move other baseball coaches had made before. Just thought it was silly to say it was because of his ego. I would have bunted but deep down i love that he gave Deichmann a shot to make something happen.

Hale's ball hitting Bregman was unfortunate, but PM knew he had the top of his order coming up to catch Deichmann's back if he faltered.

It's a move often made mid game. I don't have the best memory but I can't recall not seeing a bunt in that situation in college. ETA: certainly not since 2010.

And I get what you're saying about faith in Deichmann. As a fan, I just wish it hadn't had the worst result possible.

Sure, we all know that fans never remember the moves that work, but they reason we didn't applaud 'moves that worked' this past weekend is because there wasn't any to applaud.

CPM was in a funk all weekend. Whatever he did all weekend, he should do the opposite..

Pee sitting down, shite standing up, drink your food, chew your water, whatever he does normally, the should do he complete opposite.
