And teams like Ohio state that experience bad QB luck are just beneficiaries of extreme good fortune.
I don't think there's a coach at any level that gets more out of his QBs than Meyer.

Well, Miles hasn't recruited one QB from high school that has been anything more than mediocre
This is the biggest problem with him. As a HC, this is unacceptable. No excuses. No diversions.

See, I think it may be the opposite. Or, a little of both.

Maybe that's the case, maybe it's not. I just believe that you don't recruit the #1 QB in the country in 2005 and 2012 without the expectation that he will be your starter for a few years.

Well, going 5 years without a QB Coach on staff certainly didn't help. But our biggest problem at the position has been youth, hands down.

We had Russell Shepard too who was the #1 recruit in the land at QB. He stayed at LSU and that never panned out either. Our development of QBs is slow.

He was a dual threat QB. and if you paid any attention to him in high school you saw the writing on the wall. He was always the fastest kid on the field and literally ran the ball 80% of the time. And I'm not talking about read option...I'm talking about getting the snap and taking off running. He was never going to be a QB at the next level.

Shepard is a terrible example. He switched positions after only one year at QB.
ETA: I remember the All-Star game he played in with Dubose. Threw one of the worst deep balls I've ever seen.

Perilloux
Lee
Jefferson
Hatch
Shepard
Garrett
Randall
Rettig
Z.Lee
Mett
AJ
Harris
Not sure I'm forgetting anyone. Since 2005 this is our QB's that have been on the roster, recruited since Miles started. Not sure if I'm forgetting someone or not but this is a long list of failures for various reasons, minus one.

I guess our coaches are dumb then. I didn't watch him in high school, but he actually only ran for just over 100 yards more than he passed for his senior year and had 20 TDs to just 4 picks in that year.

I dont see how you can consider Harris and Jennings failures at this stage.
That list also contains two current NFL and one current MLB players.

A terrible example of what? I just said it was another potential QB for us that never panned out. I remember being on here back then and I don't remember too many people thinking he wouldn't be an impact player. He switched positions, but the fact is that he wasn't developed one way or the other.

He developed well enough as a WR to earn an NFL roster spot.

There is still hope for them considering that J Lee was a contributor in his senior year. But Jennings seemed to go in the wrong direction as the season went on last year.

Is this thread about WR? Because LSU recruits and develops the best WR's in the nation.
Which makes our QB failures that much more mystifying

He had 6 catches for less than 100 yards in his senior year and didn't record a single stat against in the Peach Bowl loss in his final game (nor did he see the field against Bama in the BCSCG even though he was our leading receiver and had the longest reception for us in the first Bama game). He is athletic and that's mainly why a team took a chance on him in the NFL.

It's a pretty widely accepted truth that collegiate QBs aren't fully equipped to execute an offense until their Jr. year.
at LSU, sure. but not at a lot of the other top 25 programs.
