So now we can refer to magazines as clips?

A lot less posts will be made here correcting ignorant gun owners

Whose responsibility is it to fix a possible scratch on the hood from the pistol?

I am glad your stop ended with you feeling as if it was a good ending. I can say that it would not have ended the same way, if it were me being stopped. I am 1,000% behind our law enforcement officers, but will not allow one to pull items out of either one of my vehicles without probable cause or a search warrant. While I have absolutely nothing to hide, there is no law that says every gun is to be checked for being stolen written in any state of the Union.

When you get stopped, tough guy, you just go ahead and challenge the cops.

Your 5 minute traffic stop will probably turn into a several hour ordeal.

Without going into too much detail, I've gotten out of 2 major traffic violations by being upfront with officers about having loaded firearms in my vehicle.

I don't think anyone has problem answering a question from an officer about a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

It is all the other silliness that transpired. Call for backup, run the numbers, handle the weapon; we are talking presumed innocence.

The cop surely made the 5 minute stop into at least a 1/2 hour just b/c OP had a perfectly legal weapon in the car and disclosed such.

Oh well, at least it wasn't NOPD. That gun woulda got gone.

Did he also call in and run the serial number on your cell phone or any other items in the car? It was just as likely as the gun to have been stolen.

It was on the hood of the cops cruiser.

I was leaned up against his car between the drivers door and the officer standing at the front of the cruiser checking my gun.

Like I said after it came back clean he placed it all back in my truck and then came back and shot the shite until they finished running my name, checking registration, checking insurance, ect........

Never asked if I had a CC permit (I don't).

It's a respect thing to me they are just doing their job and neither one of them were in any way arrogant or assholes. I've had that kind before.

I guess all the cars going by was like ahhhh he in trouble when they saw a gun on the hood of the cruiser.

Took about 10-15 minuets then I was on my way.

It's good it all worked out.

You being cooperative is probably why you just got a warning.

That said, in a lot of folks' opinions, the whole thing was kinda unnecessary.

You were most probaly profiled. Get a haircut, hippie.

Edit: I meant unnecessary.

..... it's (vehicle) not an "extension of your home" since it is looked at differently in the courts. But, it is contained in your property and is in fact legal without a permit.

Not sure what court ruling you're referring to, but I always enjoy reading them if you have a cite.

I've never seen a statute containing specific language saying one's vehicle is "an extension of his home." BUT possession of a firearm in one's vehicle is considered to be a "constitutionally protected activity."

Louisiana Revised Statute 14:95.2 discusses the carrying//possession of firearms in Firearm Free Zones//school property.

This statute, which prohibits carrying on school property and/or in firearm free zones, contains eight exemptions, one of which is "Any constitutionally protected activity which cannot be regulated by the state, such as a firearm contained entirely within a motor vehicle."

This exemption, among others, is specifically listed in the La. State Police CHP "Laws & Administrative Rules" booklet. LINK

I've been pulled over twice in the US, once was to compliment me on my vehicle and the other time was cause I had a taillight out. When I had the taillight out, the LEO noticed a knife in my truck. He asked if I had any other weapons in my truck. I told him i wasnt sure, but he was more than welcome to check. He handed me back my license and said get my taillight fixed (no ticket). Had I not wanted him to check my vehicle, that would have been my right. I just wanted to speed things up and get back on the road.

I had nothing to hide no use being a jackass about it. I respect the police and their jobs are hard enough without getting mouth from me or anyone else.
