We are thinking about staying in downtown houston for 2 days to check out the city, but I dont know what part to stay in. We want to be in an area that has lost of restaurants, bars, etc. within walking distance.

any suggestions?

I camped out in the restaurant in center field in enron once. (Now minute maid).

It was cool but apparently you cant sleep there.

I don't know if I'd stay downtown to "check out the city". Besides Astros/Rockets games it's pretty much a ghost town at night(at least it was when I lived there).

Rice Village/Midtown/Galleria all have more bar and restaurant options

Downtown. Restaurants and fun bars. Take a über or cab to midtown if you want to day drink and go out. Where all the yuppies are. 21-45

Galleria- tons of restaurants. Galleria mall.Nightlife is lacking.

Rice village- bars, restaurants, and shopping. College bars- well when I used to go to college I went here.

I would stay downtown. If you want to go shopping and out to eat in the galleria, just drive out there. You can dine and party in downtown and midtown.
