I have my 7 year old trained to open doors for women. Many years of me and his sister just standing there and waiting for him to remember.

I open/hold the door for pretty much anybody who happens to be behind me.. Just a habit. Often hold it for a sec or two even when nobody is there just in case

I'm in my mid 30's and have never had any woman say anything other than 'Thank you' when I've held a door open for them. I think by and large this line thinking only exists in the author's (and ones like her) mind.

This is regional. Southern women seem to appreciate it. Yankee women are sometimes contemptuous and sometimes charmed. Women in the Northwest are often offended. That's my experience.

If you're a bitch about it, I have no problem shutting in your face.
But damnit you better acknowledge I was nice enough to do it. I don't need a thank you. But I expect she contact, a nod, something to show you're not a huge piece of suit and have some shred of humanity.
