What's your strategy? I'm trying to create a somewhat green city. I'll just put my highly polluted districts far away from the higher end residential districts.

Hey guys, bought the game on steam last night and it is a lot of fun so far.

This morning, I found that you can get the game for $21.99 from Green Man Gaming. You have to log into your account to get to the VIP section.

I'm also seeing a lot of cloned buildings. Overall this isn't a huge issue and hopefully it can be fixed through updates and mods/community support

ETA: I also hope in the future you can set certain districts to have certain architecture. Would love to have a china town or a French New Orleans Area

Had to take a bailout on my first city. I'll start a new one tonight, I forgot how hard these games are and how much you really have to plan ahead.

What's everyone's strategy?

I started my city out with a decently large residential area then JUST enough industrial district for there to be enough jobs. My first industrial district specialized in the timber industry.

Originally I didn't have much of a strategy, just toying with the game. Which is why my city was a bit of a mess. Once I got the pop over 10K I saw everyone was getting sick due to living too close to my industry so I began to set up a residential neighborhood on the other side of the highway entrance.

So I have slowly sorted my industry away from my people which has helped the health of my people somewhat.

Keeping my residential zones upwind from the industry has helped a great deal.

Once my City began to really grown traffic from the highway became crazy due to me having tiny two-lane streets.

Eventually I knocked down enough buildings to put highways into my city but it took some time. Still didn't solve the traffic problem as you can see, so I bought land and connected my industrial zones straight to the highway (on the other side of town) which has helped with traffic a great deal. I also added rail service there and that has helped as well.

You can never have enough of these...as I have found.

I currently have 5 dotting the city. I just got an incinerator so hopefully that will help the issue soon.

I made a mistake with my water pumps...though my initial city zone barely had any river to build against.

Still I have made the river fairly useless because of all the pollution I am pumping into it. Going to need to move those now that I have expanded.

Fire has been a huge issue in my city. Not sure why either as I have plenty of firefighters.

Yet I have two going in this picture.

Right now I have a bit under 18K people living in Robwood. I think I played for like 9 hours last night.

It was the first time in an eon where I kept thinking, I'll play a bit longer then head to bed.

I didn't find my pillow until 4 am.

This game has the potential to be everything Simcity 4 was and more. And that is a game that hasn't left my hard drive in 10 years.

Ignore tutorials. Ignore icons popping up. Rapidly run out of money.

Mission success!

Do you have your poop water outflow just upstream of a hydro dam?

eta: technically thats fine, if your intent is to make a giant artificial poop lake. however it is going to eventually back up and backflow into your clean water intake.
And then everyone will die.

Lol I hadn't thought of that. Perhaps it's time to buy more land and move the dam.

I see no problem. Sometimes making imaginary people drink poop is a great stress outlet.

I think you have to hit your first milestone or two to get the option. But what you have to do is paint over your industry area and make it it's own district. Then there should be options on the UI as to what kind of specialization you want it to have. Be sure the area that it's in has enough of that natural resource to support it's specialization.

Starting to have some traffic issues coming off the highway

My favorite neighborhood at the moment even though they are constantly bitching about something. Seriously. They have a police station, fire station and elementary school by them but they are constantly bitching about how they don't have something.

Strip that will have high end residential and offices after I bring in a university.

I'm not sure I like the art style in this game, I hope it ends up being moddable.

There are mods galore appearing for it on steam. The building style is very european, which makes sense given that Paradox is from Sweden.

I can understand that. But yes, there are mods galore for this game. Just a side not that might not matter but there are several color corrections you can make your game. Mine looks brighter than usual because I put tropical on. I put Boreal on a minute ago and it looks WAY better.
