No. But I know someone who has. I can't really talk about it.

Who's asking?! Eh?! Irregardless, I think it would be wise if you abstain from this area. Capisce?

Scruffy has a good family friend who apparently babysat for a mafioso decades ago when she was in high school living in Chicago.

She said she didn't find out until they raided the house and she read about it in the paper.

That's the only time Scruffy ever heard anyone talk about that stuff.

I used to know some people that did this.

It didn't end well for them.

I haven't ever known anyone who pretended, but did know of someone from back home who was actually allegedly "connected." ... He was the president of one of the local banks in which he had a relative managing day-to-day operations since he & his family had relocated to another state. The story was, he & his relative had some sort of disagreement about "business issues" pertaining to said bank, & shortly thereafter, the relative/manager was found dead in said bank, with 4 gunshot wounds to the chest, & was promptly ruled a "suicide" by the authorities. Case closed.

Anyone who will tell you they are in the mafia is full of shite. The code of Omertà is highly valued in La Cosa Nostra and the entire idea of keeping a low profile is compromised if you go around telling people you're connected.

Anyone who does that is either lying or about to get 2 in the back of the head with the quickness.

I never found out for sure, but I highly suspected this guy I worked with that would always tell me "I'm gonna go get the papers, get the papers".

No one. I used to work for connected people. It used to be fairly dangerous to joke about stuff like that. But, for the most part, the old organization is dead. RICO killed it good and dead - except for a few pockets, a few industries and a few unions.

Most of the old general vice stuff is dead and that is how the average joe used to run into connected folks. And we're now several generations (100+ years) into the American Cosa Nostra, most of the younger kids were urged to go legitimate, and many did, owning jewelry stores, grocery stores, liquor stores, things like that.

In the early 60's - the Dixie mafia was a force around Tangipahoa and St. Tammy parishes - sometimes over into the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
