Trucker in the left lane had a right to be there and did nothing wrong. Video begins with the truck in the right lane coming up so he obviously was in the left lane to pass it. it is very hilly in that area and to maintain speed, it is necessary to do what the trucker was doing.
If it is a very hilly area, trucks need to stay in the right lane and not impede traffic by trying to "maintain their speed" to save themselves gas money. Impeding traffic causes more accidents than speeding and should be ticketed just as severely as speeding.
Lady definitely was at fault, truckers do the same shite with late merging all the time though to "maintain their speed."

He could've avoided the whole thing if he wouldn't have had his head up arse.
She messed up, but he messed up way worse.
He's pretty terrible at driving.

That's what's nice about I-75 in Florida, truckers have to stay in the right lane, and can only pass in the middle lane...
They must enforce it pretty well, because the right lane always looks like a huge convoy...

I agree, to an extent.
I'm not surprised at all the Louisiana drivers finding no fault with the trucker. They can't drive for shite.
At least the other trucker in the right lane saw what was happening and got way the hell over.

Trucks at interstate speed need to maintain a five second safe following distance. That is the way it is taught in training.

2. Why would a truck driver get within 10 feet of another car at ~70 mph then?
That's the way it's taught, but it rarely works in the real world.
If there's a gap in front of you, someone will take it. And if you slow down to increase that gap, another car will take it again. And again. And again.

Yep.
If you cut someone off and they don't slow down and you end up side swiping them, guess who's at fault?
You can call them a dick, an a-hole, a prick, or whatever other anatomically derived derogatory term you want, but you're still at fault in the eyes of the law.
It's true that all the truck had to do was lift, but he was under no obligation to do so, and it is also true that the driver of the jetta had the easier option of avoiding the accident, which is to say not attempting to merge in such a tight spot in the first place.

So it's taught to accelerate and tailgate the car in front of you, knowing that if that car hits their breaks you can't physically stop fast enough? That seems kind of odd.

I tell you what:
Show that video to any jury.
They will both be found at fault.
He was jacking his jaw, being inattentive, if not aggressive.
50/50.
Honestly though, he could have easily avoided it.

Wrong. Truck had every right to be in the left lane. I cannot tell the speed of the right lane truck is going, but obviously slower than the left lane truck. But the left lane trucker was occupying the left lane, with a safe gap between the blue truck ahead UNTIL the Altima took that gap away. But as they were still climbing a hill, the trucker would have created more problems if he had slowed down and besides, sitting so high up, the trucker could see the conditions of the road further ahead than a car can and likely saw where the lanes would clear out once over the hill and past the right lane truck. The VW merged when they had NO safe gap to merge into. And if the trucker was on the phone when it happened, don't throw sticks- the trucker tried to avoid the VW by steering away from the VW but really, where the hell could he go? Slam on his brakes and cause a multi-vehicle accident? Steer left and go over the cable divider? I mean, what the hell could the trucker do? He maintained his lane as best he could but the VW created the unsafe conditions by merging and then slowing down. Smart. Pay attention, retards. The VW signaled, merged, and THEN hit the brakes, meaning the vehicles in the left lane ahead of the lane trucker were slowing down already. It was not the truck that was speeding up to close the gapp, it was the vehicles ahead of the left lane truck slowing down faster than the truck could. Any competent lawyer could argue and win this case for the left lane trucker.
So much retard on this board.
So much retard on this board.

No tailgating is not taught, just like passing on the right is not taught.

Sure. I'll do so with a lawyer who will simultaneously explain the law. Jetta 100% at fault, Trucker walks.

They both could have. She could have simply not tried to cut him off.

You're right, that's way too much to ask.

A rig nearly took me out a few weeks ago.
I was passing him in the left lane, and he turned his blinker on to pass a slower rig in the right lane. Instead of letting me pass and then move over, he moved over fast and I had to jump on the brakes and slow by 15 or so mph before getting taken out.
When I passed a few min later, I flipped him off and he replied with a horn blast.
..another time, traffic slowed to a stop on either I12 or I10. I was stopped in the left lane, and I glanced in my mirror to see a rig barreling down the shoulder because he didn't see the traffic ahead of him. He had to swerve to avoid taking out 4-5 cars in the left lane, including mine.
frick those guys. They cause most of the wrecks on the roads by not paying attention to everything around them and forgetting that they can't slow down quickly. They have to be zoning out because they are sitting 3-4 above everyone else and can see traffic slowing down sooner than everyone else.

This is where we disagree.
That would imply that the trucker had no other option.
Are you saying that he couldn't have avoided the wreck? (forget about right of way, I agree with you on that point)

absolutely not. Of course he could have, but there is no legal onus on him to do so.
Morally? Yea he was being a jerk. But taken to the extreme, if the accident would have resulted in the Jetta driver's death, I am fairly certain he would walk with no legal repercussions.

Let off the accelerator, pretty simple. Truckers think they own the road and we are all just in their way.
Everyone is talking about climbing a hill. His arse should have been in the right lane not making people pass him on the right. If he would have got off the gotdamn phone long enough he might be able to do his job.
