Most new wave is terrible
Elvis Costello, Graham Parker, The Paisley Underground movement and the Power Pop revival
A lot of great stuff came out of New Wave

I am very glad I wasnt a teenager or young adult in the 80's, definitley the worst decade ever for music.
80's were awesome. Bars would close down for an hour, open back up with coke, booze and card games. Society added far too many rules by the 90's.

Legends such as Madonna, Michael Jackson(pre white), metalrock(Metallica), U2, are just some of the different kinds of music of the decade. I think fads, the cold war, MTV make the 80's special. Do I like Elvis, Beatles yes of course but to me the 80's music was special. All types of music for types of people.

Well said, The 80's were an awesome decade all around.. SO much music,so much diversity, Can't pick just one band or song.....

You are saying that hair rock was as good as music in the 60's or 70's?
We were comparing it to the 90s.
The 80s had some great rock.

I was in the navy and we used to play that song with Blondie rapping to a black guy in the shop. We told him see Blondie was rapping before RUN DMC he would get pissed.

Absolutely. If you couldn't find enough good music to keep you happy in that decade, you were just a miserable person.

Yep, the 80s was a great decade for music. Very well rounded for all genres. It gets a bad name due to the cheesy pop culture of the decade

Watch movies like sixteen candles and the breakfast club, ferris bueller and the music is phenmonial. Movies and music of the 80's

Boy George and culture club
Ok we may have had a little bit pop culture but times were different.

I'll put it this way. Go listen, not watch, but listen to Miami Vice episodes. How many of those songs would you actually buy today?
Posted on 3/1/15 at 11:51 pm to prplhze2000
I wasn't a big Miami vice guy but I know the Don Henley "we belong to the city" was the main song.
Its in your heart, it's in your soul, etc.
Eta: and who didn't have a Hawaiian shirt because of that show?

This song/video perfectly describes the 80's for me.
If Aliens landed and said "Tell me abput 80's culture and music" I'd show them this video.

If that's what you got out of the 80's, you need a redo.

I was 5 when the 80's ended lol, I didn't get a lot out of it.
He-Man and Star Wars were pretty awesome from what I remember.
